    Fluorescent Ballast

I checked the web site. This appears to be a fixture that uses a very small, 1/4" diameter, fluorescent tube. This fixture has a built in ballast, so you can connect it directly to 120V. For me a lamp is just the fluorescent tube. This is a fluorescent lighting fixture. Let me see what...

    Fluorescent Ballast

Most of the lamp manufacturers make what is called a self-ballasted compact fluorescent lamp. They range from 5W to 50W and about 200-3000 lumens. All fit a standard light socket (Edison base) here in the US. Check out www.lighting.philips.com/nam www.osramsylvania.com or www.lighting.ge.com...

    Light Bulb Questions

Pdshah, What do you consider a trace amount of Hg? 10mg. There are fluorescent lamps on the market that have very low Hg content, on the order of 20mg or less. FYI, some incandescent lamps have aluminum bases.

    Light Bulb Questions

Now that I have read all the replies, let me make a few more comments. All fluorescent lamps currently available contain mercury. Even compact fluorescents. This element is critical for operation. HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. Included in this lamp family are Mercury Vapor lamps...

    Light Bulb Questions

Please keep in mind that the 5000 hour lamps you are changing to put out significantly less light than the ones you are replacing. Have you tried using a 130V version of the 1000W lamp. Light output will decrease about 12%, but lamp life should increase at least 50%. As for mercury. Halogen...
