Balanced and Symmetric Layups with PW Fabric

Thank you for the quick reply. The +/-45 on the midplane sort of hurts my head since there isn't a pair of 45's on each side of the midplane. I suppose the true midplane is in the middle of that layer of fabric. I was struggling to prove this to myself with CLT using uni lamina property...

Balanced and Symmetric Layups with PW Fabric

Do you need an even number of plies to achieve a balanced and symmetric laminate with plain weave fabric? Assuming plain weave fabric, would [0F/45F/0F] be considered unbalanced and unsymmetric?

Bond Shear Allowable vs. Shear Stress Limits

Thank you both for your responses. "RTFM" - that hurts, but it was deserved. Thanks again.

Bond Shear Allowable vs. Shear Stress Limits

Hello All, In Nastran what is the difference between the Bond Shear Allowable in the property card vs the Shear Limit Stress in the material card? I did a quick search of the forum, but didn't find anything. Thanks in advance for your help. Kris

Recoving Composite Ply Stress After a DDAM Analysis

Thank you for the responses. Outputing the loads on the shell elements and running them into a laminate code is what I am doing. This is a bit labor intensive, and therefore I am only verifying the highest stressed elements. This seems like it would be perfect for a FEMAP API, since FEMAP has...

Recoving Composite Ply Stress After a DDAM Analysis

Hello. I am trying to recover composite ply stresses after a DDAM run. DDAM does not support (or at least I don't think it does)laminate property cards, so my results are outputed as Shell stress. Does anyone know of a way that I can convert these shell stresses back to laminate stresses so I...
