Value of the angle alpha in fig UW-9-2

Ho Friends, The value of the angle alpha in the following figure is given as less than 71.5 degrees in UW-9(c)(2). Can we assume that this angle can be any value between 0 deg and 71.5 deg? Or are there any other restictions. We normally provide this angle as 30 deg. Thank you in advance. Kind...

Applicability of UG-44(b) for Aluminium Standard flanges allowed as per Code case -2905

Definitely I want to do the evaluation of the flange as per the formula given in UG-44(b)(4) ; not the local stresses at the nozzle vessel intersection. My question is whether the formula is valid in my case as the flange material (aluminium alloy)it is not listed in ASME B16.5.

Applicability of UG-44(b) for Aluminium Standard flanges allowed as per Code case -2905

Hi, Thanks for the responses. I think I have not made myself very clear in the post above. The scenarion is that I am using Aluminium Weld Neck Flanges (1" NPS) on a pressure vessel. Since ASME B16.5 does not have Aluminium Flanges, I resort to code case 2905 that allows the use Aluminium...

Query regarding rings in cold stretched vessels as per Appendix-44 of ASME Sec VIII Div-1

Hi All, The snip of Appendix-44 (i) is given below. In this context what is meant by "centroid of the ring"? Is it the centroid of the ring structural crosssection or centroid of the ring itself? What is an example of a structural discountinuity mentioned here? Is a longitudinal shell weld...

Calculation of Anchor Bolt Diameter/ Length for Pressure Vessels

Dear Friends, Why is embedded length not a factor in calculating the size of pressure vessel anchor bolts? Is there a method to calculate required length of anchor bolt when the foundation is made of structural steel and not concrete? Kind Regards, Ranjit

Should the Jacket of a Cryogenic Vessel be considered as pressure vessel?

@DriveMeNuts Yes, we are mainly concerned about the costs related addional inspection and tests. Will it be acceptable to conduct a leak test for the vacuum jacket in line with UG-99 (f)(2) in lieu of a hydrostatic test? @EdStainless There are safety heads on the vacuum jacket sized as per...

Should the Jacket of a Cryogenic Vessel be considered as pressure vessel?

Cryogenic pressure vessels are double walled with outer jcakets fully enveloping the inner vessel. The annular space between the inner and outer vessels is fully vaccumized and filled with expanded perlite. In a normal case the external pressure on the jecket is 15 psig or less. As per Appendix-...
