There is a package called cfdesign (http://www.cfdesign.com/Products/ProEngineer.asp)
They had a software demo in our company and it's pretty impressive. The only drawback is it's a bit pricey!

I've run Wildfire on Linux Professional(Red Hat) ver 8.0.
No problems at all. In term of speed, comparable with running in windows and very stable. Unfortunately, it's not capable to host as Conference Server.

Create simplified rep for the part: (exclude/include features you need)
e.g. "rep_machined" and "rep_unmachined" for cast.prt
Within weld assembly, create simp-rep, "rep_machined_assy" to include cast.prt. Select "replace"...
There are several guidelines I use to create this feature:
1. Creation of "Curve thru points":
- Select start point in consistent direction.
- e.g. if you want to sweep from left to right, then the very left need to be the starting point. Same goes for the tan curve.
