The elevator machine room should be a room dedicated to the elevator equipment. I have had experience in which walls were constructed about the equipment and all forgien equipment/piping/wiring had to be removed from the elevator machine room. You are required to provide a disconnect upon...
Elevators are used for fire fighter service in high rise buildings, thus the requirement for them to be on life safety. The International Mechanical code requires smoke evac and stair pressurization to be treated as as life safety system and also requires emergency feeders to be separated (2hr...
The only fully sprinklered builing type requiring smoke detection, I am aware of, is a nursing home. See the IBC and NFPA. These two standards have many exceptions for fully sprinklered building types.
amazingmg,
This is a code violation as enclosures cannot be used as a raceway. Enclosures are typically sized to accomadate wire in and out of the device. In addition, the splice within the enclosure is a potential for a fault, which could damage you service entrance disconnect, even though...
VFD's are a major source of harmonics. IEEE 519 requires that harmonics be limited to 5% at the point of common coupling (ie. the service entrance). Recently my firm has insisted that a harmonic study be performed or a harmonic mitgation, passive filter be installed to limit harmonics to 5% at...
I had a situation similar to this and the local AHJ told us that there is no criteria for temporary installations. I have been through the NFPA and have not found any mention of temporary installations.
mmt019 is correct, but if you are going to trip an elevator, you most likely do not want to trap its occupants in the car. The heat detector should be a minimum of 15 degrees less than the sprinkler head rating.
I believe you are experiencing back EMF from your elevators, unless you have delayed transfer on the ATS. If the generator is considered an emergency source, ground fault protection is not required for the emergency side of the ATS.
Your generator is considered a separately derived source which requires an oversurrent protection means. In addition the NEC requires a secondary over current for you step-up transformer. The primary over current protection ( ie. your generator breaker) should be sized at 125% of the...
