PD pump vibration transmitted to rack

I'm not sure if someone has addressed this issue already in a previous posting so please let me know if that is the case. Here are the details of the pumps followed by my questions Three triplex pumps in parallel with each other discharge to a pipeline. The pumped fluid is from the brine and...

Section VIII Div 2 Compressive Loads design (EPC's vs 3-D.5 "Prager" curves)

Which approach does compress use for compressive load design in Section VIII Division 2 when materials other than carbon and low alloy steel are considered? Does compress use External Pressure Charts from Section II subpart 3 or does compress use Section VIII Div 2 part 3-D.5 to calculate...

    "Lifting" lugs on heads?

There is also a nice option in Blodgett's Design of Weldments; intended for hangars on pressured piping. That one is doable by hand or a simple spreadsheet.

Light hydrocarbons, Summer Temperatures causing gas to develop in piping

Cloa and zdaz: The gas test I gave data for was for ONLY the gas that was removed from the pipe. Mole, weight and Lv were given in the report but I only put the approx. mole % in my description because the goal was to simply show that for a non-process guy like myself it is very confusing to...

Light hydrocarbons, Summer Temperatures causing gas to develop in piping

I am an ME commissioning a small oilfield produced water filtration plant and we have some problems with gas developing in the suction lines to the pumps. I would like to know what sorts of chemical additives could be used to help the gases separate out of the produced water upstream in the...

Tank Clip Pads without Rounded Corners

I would check API 650 for some requirements for the corners. I think they still need to be rounded to some extent. If there isn't anything there then you could perform a fairly quick hand calculation using Blodgett's design of weldments. I think chapter 5 talks about clips and repads. Your...

    Credentials for PV design work

PV design work would be related to ASME Code and that would be a good place to go for some qualifications. The best description of what the ASME Code really wants I think is B31.3 where it identifies the basic qualifications for several contributors to the safety of the product. Another...

    Introduction and Request for Guidance

Though I caution you to really read through the output of this program to help yourself become familiar with the pressure vessel Code and how the program satisfies most but sometimes not all of the Code requirements, you can find some good calculation software at Codeware.com. I am not a...

Change in Compress - adding axial load calc (Bergman, ASME paper 54-A-104)

Keep in mind also, that most of the recent Code efforts in the area of compression have been to incorporate new load combinations and new load cases that have never been included in the Code before. The methods themselves are not necessarily new and any new calculation or modification of...

ASME B31.3 Acceptance criteria for welds

Yes Stanweld's last statement and metengr are both right. The owner is required to establish engineering requirements for the system integrity for new service and also for future maintenance programs. Something said above that I would like to touch on. There are other ways to obtain a...

    Nitrogen filled vessel

you could also suggest pulling a dew point on it to support the suggestion of TD2K. Prove its dry and sealed.

    Nozzle Flange

Mikeatch - make sure you chase the bolting down a bit and see if it doesn't actually need to be stronger. at 5 ksi the flange may be sufficiently strong for the forces required to satisfy seating etc but the bolts might not be strong enough to deliver the load.

Contact Resistance conversion from electrical to mechanical

FYI - read carefully! those equations are sensitive to a few things!

Contact Resistance conversion from electrical to mechanical

Try these out! Modeling, Designing, Fabricating, and Testing of Channel Panel Flat Plate Heat Pipes - by James Harris (ME!!!!) [20] Bahrami, M., Yovanovich, M., and Marotta, E., 2006, Thermal Joint Resistance of Polymer-Metal Rough Interfaces, ASME J. of Electronic Packaging, 128(3), pp...

    Modulating burner vs Min-Mßx

My experience was a small % of overall burner efficiency but there was a modest improvement in cost efficiency. What efficiency do you need to improve? (heat, energy, cost...)
