What is this, what is it used for?
The boys dug it up when plowing electric cable. It was not located so seems to be private. (A note was left for the homeowner, but no response yet). No signs of security cameras and it wasn't running between two buildings, just seeminly out in the middle of...
@PHovnanian
'tub' is the slang we use for just about any transformer. ;) All our transformers are feed-thru... It's probably just how we spec them.

I like the over-excitation theory in terms of an explanation

We know the cause was lightning, I just want to understand why...
Single phase underground line with a lightning arrestor and line fuse at the TP pole (terminal pole - where the line goes from OH to UG). The line has 15 or so padmount transformers on it, serving 20 or so customers. All tubs...
Being that it is 2MVA at the given voltages, I assume this is large 3ph distribution unit. We routinely do this kind of work in our shop and we do not take 'special' precautions to limit moisture, etc... I'm not saying we take 'no precautions', we just don't do anything special like run...
I have a form from a telecomm company that is requesting the Ground Potential Rise (GPR), Distance to 300V GPR Boundary, etc. I am looking for typical 'ballpark values'... my calculations give me a pretty far distance for the 300V GPR Boundary. The calculations seem really straight forward...
DGA on the transformer. It will tell you if it was an internal fault or something else. Once you've narrowed it down, investigate more specific causes.

What relay would you put on a transrupter and why? We are pretty blue so I've got a few things in mind. SCADA capabilities are a must for time-stamping and analogs - since you can't do much control with a transrupterbut... it's better than fuses ;)

A colleague has sub-contracted a lady who can sense electric and magnetic fields on stray-voltage studies. She's a bit of a hippy nut-job but the lady is scary accurate when it comes to locating loose neutrals, etc. Perhaps you should tune your abilities.

I'm having some issues here. It seems like it should be so straight forward. I'm trying to follow the testing instructions per the manual but I'm not having any luck. I can hear the relay buzzing when I apply current but do not get a trip. I am ramping to the pickup value. Anyone have any...
