I should have stated that I machined aircraft braking discs which would be a high end material hence the low cutting speed, we were milling the discs rather than single point turning, we did this in UK.

The actual internal methods are a little more complex than a few holes filled with carbide, they are self tuning oil filled tubes basically

Believe it or not pcd works as long as the heat is kept low. Uncoated carbide wears quickly as cfc is abrasive.

You are trying to drill a 25mm dia hole through this HRSA material. I visit Special Metals every couple of weeks and we supply 75% of their cutting tools (sandvik).
