I have design capacity tables from the ASD/LRFD Manual for Engineered Wood Construction and it gives ASB Bending Member Capacities for 6in nominal thickness members but it only give 6x6 or bigger. I am looking for the capacity of a 4x6 wood column. Anyone know where I can find this info? Thanks.
I realized I made a mistake in method 1 and it should be
W= Roof weight (snow+dead=65 psf) + Floor weight (40LL+ 10 DL)
W = 65 psf x 12' + 50 psf x 6'
W = 1080 lb/ft.
So I guess either way works and method 2 is really just an in depth version of method 1.
I am trying to figure out a beam size. The beam will be 7.75 feet long and supported on both ends by a wood column. Which method below is the correct way to size the beam?
Method 1
W= Roof weight (snow+dead=65 psf) + Floor weight (40LL+ 10 DL)
W = 65 psf x 7.75' + 50 psf x 7.75'
W = 891.25...
MiketheEngineer,
There will be a ridge board at the peak of the roof and the rafters will tie into from each side. Therefore, the span would be 12' correct?
So I should change my load to 55 psf + 10 psf = 65 psf?
How does the 15% short term increase work? If that is not built into the...
My snow load is 55 psf. The building is 16' x 24' and the rafters are going to run parallel to the 24' length. Is below the correct way to size my rafters (spaced 24" o.c.)?
W= 55 psf (24"/12) = 110 lb/ft
M = wl^2/8 = (110 lb/ft x (12^2))/8 = 1980 lb-ft = 23,760 lb-in.
From Table M4.5-3a ASD...
I am looking at a ASD Bending Member Capacity table for Structural Lumber and I see there is a M' column and a Cr M' (Repetitive) Column. If I have floor joists or rafters spaced 16" or 24" apart and there are at least 3 of them I can use the Cr M' (Repetitive) column correct? Thanks.
So if my 10 year pre developed has a peak rate of 0.58 cfs (which is the rate at which I could discharge) I would just need my basin volume to be equal to the volume corresponding to the 0.58 cfs desire peak? Thanks.
Ok, so I enter my post developed areas and TOC in a new subcat. Then I add a pond but do not input anything for the pond. When I right click and select node report and then click sizing it gives me required storage values for corresponding desired-peaks. The desired peak of 0 cfs gives me a...
I used hydrocad about 3 or 4 years ago but I can't remember a whole lot about it. I have a site where I need to size a detention basin to store the 25 year post developed discharge and let it out at the 10 year pre developed rate.
I have entered my area and time of concentration values in my...
Apartment building burned down that had an existing stone foundation with crawl space. The foundation wall is only a few feet tall and extends above grade about 6". Can the crawl space be filled in with stone and a concrete floor slab poured over the stone and stone foundation wall? The...
For small jobs ($250 or so) like perc tests and slab on grade foundation plans I have not been getting signed contracts. I don't give them the plans unless I get the money. Is there a reason I should be getting a signed contract? Thanks.
