    J-Box vs Condulette

    D/DPC OK, thanks again. /D

    J-Box vs Condulette

. Thx David So a conduit body is only there to facilitate the pull and change direction abruptly, not for a splice...that makes sense. I couldn't see the reason to use one before since a J-box seemed simpler, even for a change in direction (if there were a splice). Thx again /D

    J-Box vs Condulette

. I wonder if someone could explain under what conditions one would spec/use/install a condulette (conduit body) rather than a standard j-box or pull box in a commercial bldg? Is it perhaps based on the number of wires to be spliced? Is there a magic number? Also are there specific...

    Bonding vs Grounding

. DCP/Steve Thx, I reread NEC 250 and found it interestg that so much of the 2005 is devoted to this subj and so little clarifies use of non metallic raceways. But I see now why the bare wire is used or not used and of course the importance of the GF path when a potential fault might occur w/...

    Bonding vs Grounding

Thanks, I thk I get it. Especially with motor controls and other direct circuits But it seems like if there is/was a bare copper wire in addition to neutral in a 3or4 wire cable bundle, it'd be acting as the GF path to ground anyway. Are these bare grounding wires not used in some cases for...

    Bonding vs Grounding

Disclosure, I'm an architect (yes I know, that says it all...;-) I noticed in the NEC that bonding jumpers are required between the *metal* boxes, raceways, etc to provide GF continuity. I've also noticed them on some jobs, but not all. I can't figure out if this secondary GF path is always...

Material and fittings for fire protection system

That’s a really kind offer, but way too much to ask of your time. However I’d really be interested in seeing what a FP model looks like for any proj you might have laying around. The FPE model I’m building is for the last few pages of the plumbing chapter in a new book on mechanical systems...

Material and fittings for fire protection system

David Thanks for this reply. We've shown grooves and couplings in the standpipes, weldolets at the sprinkler stems, brass at all hose connects and PRV valves, and will now show std threads at the branch joints, that should cover all possible materials in the FP piping. Bldg a 3D model of the...

Material and fittings for fire protection system

After 30yrs of this industry, I also often thk of all the Turtles I've known (always with a smile..) But I often wonder if those were the good ole' days or just fondly selective memories..;-)

Material and fittings for fire protection system

Interestg. A fire pump and stand pipe are being included but the sizes and pressures don't really matter to the overall 3D model. In fact a little oversize is a better for the technical illustrations that we'll extract from the model. But it is interestg to a non-FPE that the pipe sizes are...

Material and fittings for fire protection system

Thx for the tip on the weld-o-lets. We were beginning to model the strap outlets by Tyco/Grinnell and wondered if the tap holes we're drilled in the field w/ a special tool. Drilling and welding in a shop makes a lot more sense. Just out of curiosity, does that mean the entire assembly is...

Material and fittings for fire protection system

Great, thx. We'll show steel w/ couples and full sticks of grooved pipe. Can't imagine what a wrench would look like to turn an 8" threaded pipe. Let alone the men...;-) Thx again /D

Material and fittings for fire protection system

We are preparing a building information model in which the fire protection system is in the background of the primary model images. The model includes a number of visually accurate representations of mechanical systems. But we are finding conflicting info on the piping materials used the...
