Test Requirements for small 16 gallon tank

Hi All, We need to make a small 16 gallon tank to act as a intermediate tank between day tank and filling machine. The tank needs to be designed for 14.5 psi internal pressure and full vacuum. MOC is AL6XN and tank will be designed as per ASME code but it will not be stamped. I want to know for...

Support hardware material for SS 316L and Copper tubing

Hi all, In my area of work we frequently use stainless steel (316L) and copper tubing in FMCG production plant. I want to know if stainless steel ( say SS 304 )and copper hardware are required for supporting those tubes respectively? Is there any chances of galvanic corrosion or any other...

    pressure vessel design pressure

Thanks MJC... Is the criteria of any vessel to be stamped or not is based on Design pressure or maximum allowable working pressure? For instance my design pressure is 14.9 psig and MAWP is 15.5 psig in that case whether the vessel needs to be code stamped?

    pressure vessel design pressure

The vessel, infact it is tank at atmospheric pressure, will be installed in Ohio, US. So ASME standard will be followed. My question is related to the fact that if the design pressure is specified as 15 psig whether it will come under pressure vessel as per ASME boiler and pressure vessel code...

    pressure vessel design pressure

All, I want to know if design pressure of any vessel is 15 psig whether it comes under pressure vessel category and its stamping is needed? Thanks in advance.

2B Mill finish and 32 Ra finish same ?

Hi All, I want to know whether 2B mill finish is equivalent to finish with 32 micro inch average roughness (Ra). Context is for sanitary application. As per 3A, the surface roughness should not be more than 32 micro inch. I was told that 2B mill finish is equivalent to 32 Ra finish. Just want...

    Pad flange on tank

Thanks europipe.. So If I will have to use a 8" pad flange for tank whether I need to specify 8" ANSI B16.5 flange or just tell the outer dia and thickness of the flange and matching bolt circle with standard flange? Is thickness standard or equal to ANSI flange?

Welding new nozzle on existing weld seam. Possible?

Tank will store perfume microcapsules. As per the piping specification sheet no corrosion allowance recommended so I guess by nature its not corrosive.

Welding new nozzle on existing weld seam. Possible?

So am I right in saying that first welding alters the properties of heat affected zone and second welding temperature at the same place may deteriorate it further which can decrease the fatigue strength? If I want to determine whether after welding on a seam weld the tank will be in operating...

Welding new nozzle on existing weld seam. Possible?

Thanks metengr for quick reply. Whether overlapping HAZs will make the weld weak or what will be the disadvantage of overlapping HAZs?

Welding new nozzle on existing weld seam. Possible?

Hi All, I am working on modification of SS 316L atmospheric tank. The design internal pressure is 10 psi, design external pressure is 2 psi and design temp is 250 deg F. As per the drawing the vessel is manufactured as per ASME Code section VIII Div 1 but it is not inspected and stamped. My...

Question on value of force in structural calculation

Guys, I started this discussion to clear my doubt why a vendor gives a mass unit in the heading of weight and whether he means that given value represents the mass or weight? Please see the website for my doubt: http://www.fisherregulators.com/products/literature/sr8/ Now after reading the...

Question on value of force in structural calculation

Since I am more comfortable with working in Newton as force than Kgf as force that's why I wrote to convert it into Newton. But Kg implies force when given as weight that's the crux of discussion.
