Series- parallel motor connection with a simple dcv

Not enough information. I don't understand what you mean by "series parallel" when there are only two motors in the picture? Are you trying to operate in parallel when the lever is depressed one way and series when depressed the other? And what is the logic of the spool in the control valve? ISZ

    Hydraulic Supply Piping to Actuator

Could also consider a short section of metal braided hose on either end of the pipe to isolate the vibration. ISZ

Dissipation of heat from hydraulic systems

Another thing to consider is how long will the system be active? You don't mention if this has to be running indefinitely but you will see some systems with little to no cooling. In some cases they are meant to run intermittently and there is sufficient thermal mass that they can run long enough...

Ask for a name of a pneumatic symbol

I think it is a piping symbol for a filter. ISZ https://www.piping-world.com/images/10_design/10.01_plantlayout/pid_legend_sheet.png

    hydromechanical resonant frequency (HRF)

Peter Nachtwey convers this topic in many of his articles. (see www.powermotiontech.com) He recommends that the actuator natural frequency should be 3-4x the frequency of acceleration for sine waves. Larger piston area is the easiest way to increase the natural frequency. If the valves aren't...

Small 2 x 2 grow "box" with environmental controls

One option is thermal mass like rock, depending on how cool it gets at night. Could make a bed of rock with a tube running thru the middle that pulls night air thru it to cool it down. Then during the day it will absorb heat from inside the grow box. Depending on how complicated you are willing...

Precise flow divider for 700 bar pressure

I seem to remember that gear-type flow dividers can in certain instances turn into pressure intensifiers. I can't remember the specifics though and its too late for me to look into it. And a purely mechanical option is what they use to lift buildings. I have never seen a detailed drawing but...

    Corrosion in a Driven Gear

My first thought is pack it full of grease to keep the water out, but where would it go next? Would have to better understand the system and how it goes together. And reliance on inspection is not a good solution because most people won't do it. I'll put on my reliability hat and say that this...

Change hydraulic motors in rotary unit for multipurpose drilling rig

You will be increasing torque by ~50%. No idea if the gears can handle this, depends on your duty cycle and gear safety factor. Even if you don't break them you could get into pitting, which may be offset by using a thicker/better lube. And high power will create more gearbox heat. Also need...

    add or adjust backlash

I hadn't thought of the roller clutch idea, think that has some merit. I see some built to handle the requisite power level but they don't list the backlash, have to call the vendor. Also have to ask about the shock load capability. ISZ

    add or adjust backlash

TugboatEng "I don't understand fully what is trying to be achieved here...." The machine system being developed has 40-50° of backlash which can not be reasonably reduced (3 planetary stages, 1 big spur gear stage), and the system constantly changes speed and direction when in use by the...

    add or adjust backlash

I'm looking at the feasibility of a lab set-up that would replicate two different systems to help develop our controls. The main issue I have is backlash between the motor under test and the dyne. It has a significant impact on our controls and must be accounted for in the lab rigs. Ideally it...

Design of durability tests for transmissions

"Because of the difference in the stress cycle curves for pitting and bending, the effective load for pitting and bending will be different. Thus, it is difficult to predict the mode of failure without the complete analysis of the duty cycle as indicated. Therefore, if the shape or magnitude of...

    Viscosity Breakdown?

Agree with dgallup. Full syn group 4 is going to have the best viscosity index - i.e. least change in viscosity due to temperature changes. Dino is usually the worst, not to mention it is much more prone to oxidation. Just part of the reason I run group 4 in my personal vehicles which see -10°F...

    Spider Gang Cultivator Caster Design

Late in responding, but I'll throw in my 2 cents. Part of your decision has to do with how long this has to last. When I worked for CaseIH we sometimes just used plain bearings because the machine only has to run a couple weeks a year for maybe 10 years, and farmers are usually good about...
