Hi,
Would like to know whether it is possible to do a drop test analysis just using Ansys Structural? Has anyone tried before? What is the limitations and how is it different from using LS-DYNA?
Thanks & Regards.
Thank you for all your replies.
First, I would like to answer Garland's question to make myself more clear.
I'm using Patran/Nastran Linear Static for my FE analysis. I model the screws as bar elements and connect them to the holes on the solid body(Hex elements with holes between them) using...
Hi,
We usually get stress concentations in bolt holes. If the FE result shows that the stress at these holes is greater than the UTS of the material, does it mean that the whole structural will fail?
Sometimes, bolt holes are ignored during simplification of the models, so how to know...
thanks for replies.
Usually if the class is not specified, is there a default class to follow?
for eg, if it is just stated the thread as 1/2-13UNC instead of 1/2-13UNC-3B?
Thanks & Regards.
What if heat treatment is carried out before welding. Is there any problem with that? Is the expected tensile strength of the weld expected to be lower than if the raw material is welded without any heat treatment?
Hi,
Thanks for your replies. The material that that I'm welding is SS 17-4. I believe (C) will give the strongest weld. But how about comparing (A) and (B)? Which one do you think will give a stronger weld?
Thanks & Regards.
Hi,
I would like to know whether there is any difference in the weld strength if
a) welding without any heat treatment
b) welding after heat treatment
c) welding prior to heat treatment
and what's the reason?
Thanks & Regards.
Hi,
I'm modelling a thin aerofoil sheet using plate elements. Would like to know if there is an equivalent thickness for aerofoil shape.
Thanks & Regards.
Hi RebelBrill,
Thanks for the info. May I know if the title of the guide book that you mentioned? Any idea whether I can get it online?
Thanks & Regards.
Hi shlr,
Yes, I'm using PATRAN s/w. I have also placed the CFD (what is the discrete field?) and structural model in 2 grps. They are both in the same geometric place.
Thanks & Regards.
Hi shlr,
Thanks for your reply. I am unable to describe the pressure as a field because it doesn't follow an equation. All I have is a dataset with over 10,000 pts. This data is actually from a CFD result with corresponds to CFD mesh which does not coincide with the FE mesh.
Regards.
