    Specification for EN8

    Please can somebody help clear this up for me… If I want EN8 and I want to use the latest standard, I don’t call it 080M40 (BS970) so do I call it C40 (1.0511) or C40E (1.1186)? Also is the applicable standard BS EN 10083 – 2 : 2006 or BS EN 10277 – 2 : 2008 for C40 (1.0511) and BS EN 10277...

    GD&T datums for organic shapes

How on earth do you set up datum planes for a part with no holes or mounting details and only one small flat surface and one straight edge (neiter of which are really significant features)? Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Internal Gear Pinion Profile Shift

Yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to do. The body of the encoder will be fixed and the pinion on the shaft of the encoder will be turned as the ring gear rotates. What you are saying about the recess gearing does not sound good from the point of view of what I'm trying to achieve but what...

    Internal Gear Pinion Profile Shift

Sorry for the confusion that was a typo, yes it is indeed 440 teeth!

    Internal Gear Pinion Profile Shift

That makes sense. Yes, the ring gear is diven by a pinion (two pinions in a pair in fact). I'm meerly trying to add a seperate pinion to drive this encoder as it's not possible to drive it from one of the existing pinions due to the shape to the drive motor gearbox. Thanks.

    Involute Tooth profile formulas

Do you have access to AutoCAD? If you do, a useful and free little utility is called truegear.lsp To run it type appload in your command line and then select truegear.lsp Then tpye tooth to start the application. It generates the involute as lots of little facets but I tend to trace over these...

    Internal Gear Pinion Profile Shift

I can't post the drawing unfortunately (it would be against our customer/supplier confidentiality agreements) but the only other dimensions pertaining to the gear are the internal diameter (to the top of the teeth) of 1756mm +0.4/-0 and the PCD of 1760mm. I doubt the I/D tells you a lot as it...

    Internal Gear Pinion Profile Shift

Am I being daft? Do you just divide the linear addendum modification by the module to get the addendum modification coefficiant? So in this case the coefficient is actually -0.5 ??? Thanks.

    Internal Gear Pinion Profile Shift

To answer a couple of specific points people have raised: Occupant, I don’t have to apply shift to the pinion but as the ring gear has a negative shift I need to decide whether it is appropriate/of any benefit to apply a positive shift to the pinion. Gearcutter, the drawing states xm2 = -2 I...

    Internal Gear Pinion Profile Shift

The internal ring gear is an existing part and is manufactured with a profile shift/addendum modification of -2 (at least this is what it says on the drawing). Apparently it is quite common to use a negative profile shift on an internal gear as it inproves the tooth profile (just what I've...

    Internal Gear Pinion Profile Shift

Wonder if any of the gear experts out there could offer me some advice. I have in internal ring gear module 4 25° pressure angle with 444 teeth and a profile shift of -2. I want to run a pinion with 37 teeth (12:1). Now, my initial thoughts were to use a profile shift of +2 on the pinion to...

    Family table assembly constraints

I want to model some hose assemblies but I have the same hose part number being used in different locations on the top level. I could for example call one the assemblies [part number]_1 and the other [part number]_2 but I would probably still have to have a third assembly showing the hose laid...

    Mechanica Lite Licence

OK, the nice man at PTC in Munich was able to help me, so I'll post for the benefit of any others reading this. Basically I was being a plank... Mechnica Lite is a very stripped back version on Mechanica and the ONLY way to assign materials is by following the hyperlinks in the Process Guide...

    Mechanica Lite Licence

Hi, I think I'm wasting my breath trying to explain myself to the PTC call centre in France and as we don't go through a reseller I think I stand more chance posting here. I am just trying to access Mechanica Lite to do a simple analysis but all the icons are greyed out. We have had Mechanica...

    Slot or Slider Constraint

update: I have worked out the slot constraint, I needed to add a datum curve. Now Ihave another problem, I can't drag the mechanism with the ‘drag components’ handle as I get the message in the dashboard “You may not drag a model belonging to the ground body.” What does this mean and how to get...
