NFPA 14 - Looped Standpipes and Flow Splitting

Thank you so much. This was helpful. Have a great day.

NFPA 14 - Looped Standpipes and Flow Splitting

Thank you so much skdesigner. I have been looking but can't find the document. Do you know where I can find it?

NFPA 14 - Looped Standpipes and Flow Splitting

For looped standpipes within the fire department pumping capability, is the standpipe hydraulic calculation allowed to take into account the loop design configuration to reduce friction loss in the system? If so, is it stated anywhere in NFPA 14 (2024 or earlier versions) to support this argument?

Calculating ESFR sprinklers in same compartment as QR Sprinklers

Both the ESFR and QR sprinklers are off the same zone (same compartment as well). If the density/area calculation method for the QR sprinklers captures both QR and ESFR sprinklers, then flow both simultaneously?

Calculating ESFR sprinklers in same compartment as QR Sprinklers

A compartment contains both QR standard coverage sprinklers and ESFR sprinklers. The QR standard coverage sprinklers protect a mezzanine that is not separated from the adjacent warehouse protected by ESFR sprinklers. For the hydraulic calculation at the boundary condition (where ESFR and...

Wood Truss Construction with Less than 6-in Gap Between Top of Bottom Chord and Bottom of Top Chord

But doesn't 9.2.1.3 only apply to wood joist construction and not trusses? Also, Figure 10.2.6.1.5.1 is not a concealed space.

Wood Truss Construction with Less than 6-in Gap Between Top of Bottom Chord and Bottom of Top Chord

[NFPA 13 (2013)] A combustible concealed spaced is created by fastening drywall tight to the bottom of a wood truss system. The wood truss has less than a 6-inch gap between the top of bottom chord and bottom of top chord. Are sprinklers required within this combustible concealed space, or...

Sprinkler Requirements for Combustible Residential Balconies < 4-ft Overhang

It is a 4-storey wood frame residential development under the IBC.

Sprinkler Requirements for Combustible Residential Balconies < 4-ft Overhang

Are sprinklers required? NFPA 13 (2013), sentence 8.15.7.1 states that "sprinklers shall be installed under exterior projections exceeding 4-ft in width." Note that NFPA 13 does not consider private balconies to contain storage. NFPA 13 notes "the committee has stated that combustibles...

    Protection Area (SxL) for Each Sprinkler - NFPA 13 (2013) - 8.5.2

Assume this is ordinary hazard occupancy, 130 SF coverage. The question is: based on the two scenarios in the link, is the scenario with the wall removed acceptable?

    Protection Area (SxL) for Each Sprinkler - NFPA 13 (2013) - 8.5.2

Good day, All scenarios shown in NFPA 13 for design area are of single, rectangular, rooms. What about oddly shaped rooms? Take for instance Figure A in the attached PDF. Would each sprinkler cover 120 sq.ft. (15 ft. x 8 ft.), or would it be 172.5 sq. ft. (15 ft. x 11.5 ft.)? Exhibit 8.7 of...

Sprinkler requirements for a transfer station

What protection would be required for a transfer station? The building is noncombustible construction and ceiling height of 30-feet.

NFPA 13R - Protection Requirements for Ground Level Combustible Breezeways

SD2 - It's wood frame townhouses. Will the breezeway require sprinklers because outside of the building is captured under NFPA 13?

NFPA 13R - Protection Requirements for Ground Level Combustible Breezeways

LCREP - NFPA 13R seems to be silent on sprinkler inclusions or exclusions outside of the building. Is this because sprinklers are not required or because we are supposed to use NFPA 13 for such areas? For example, in NFPA 13R are we supposed to protect combustible exterior projections greater...
