How someone can become a geotechnical expert witness in the US? Does it require certain registration licenses? Thanks.

Double Sheet Pile Wall/Double Walled Bulkheads

I am looking for design guidelines and any other related information for Double Sheetpile Wall (Double Walled Bulkheads) systems. The system includes sheetpiles driven like a box and each side is connected to the other with tie rods, or simply two parallel rows of piles of equal lengths connected...

Seepage around pipe piles in embankments

dgillete, Thanks for the great advice. Any suggestion of a computer program that can do the 3D analysis? Do you consider a seepage path just along the pile or do you model a zone (say 0.5 ft) around the pile while considering the pile as a rigid body? Thanks

Seepage around pipe piles in embankments

These are vertical piles. The idea is that penetrating the permeable layer by many piles will create a seepage path that will affect the integrity of the levee by introducing seepage problems.

Seepage around pipe piles in embankments

How do you consider the effect of seepage on the stability of the embankment if you have pipe piles peneterating an embankment? We have an ebmankment nearby a river with piles penetrating the embankment and socketed in rock. We have two cases, rapid drawdon and flood. I understand that when...

    Texas

What is the moisture fluctuation depth in Texas (Dallas Fortworth Area)? I am trying to determine the required cut to eliminate any potential heave in the future. I have fat clay with LL>70%.

    Falling Weight Deflectometer

Is the data point=point on the curve (sensor reading)? I am truying to estimate the time needed to do 20 tests at 20 different locations using HFWD. Thanks.

    DCPT Test

How accurate is the DCPT test in estimating the CBR and k for pavement design? I understand that it is site dependent since the CBR will be estimated based on the DCPT test results so it will need to be calibrated/correlated based on the practice in that area/site.

    Falling Weight Deflectometer

1-How long does it take to perform each falling weight deflectometer test? 2-Any special requirement for airport testing? Thanks

    Tiebacks

We are designing a wall with sheetpiles and tiebacks (anchored at both ends to sheetpiles). Another feature that is added to the site will be a new concrete bleacher with the bottom of footings about 4 feet from the ground surface. The anchors in the original design are placed about 2 feet from...

    Percolation Test

Hi, Is there any standard procedure for the percolation test? What is the best practice? Thanks.

    Open Cell Steel Sheetpiles

Does any one have experience with the open cell steel sheetpiles with Soldier piles and anchors? I attached a figure that shows the problem. My main questions: 1-What is the min/max required radius to develop the hoop stresses/tensions in the sheetpiles? for example, if we have a straight line...

How do you do the slope stability analysis?

I would like to check how people do the slope stability analysis for these two cases using slope stability programs, WHEN THERE IS WATER TABLE(if there any consensus). Do you assume the following, if not what do you use? 1-Total stress analysis: Use total strength parameters (...

    Sheet Piles in Rock

I am designing a sheetpile where rock is 45 feet deep. The sheetpile is anchored at a certain distance from the top (above ground water table). The sheetpile analysis indicated that the pile should be extended beyond the soil/rock interface. What is the best practical method to install...
