By using TDR the reflection from first metal object would be significant. What about other objects down the inductor length? Secondly are you interested in the size of the the metal object placed? It will make things a bit complicated.

Why not current amplification?

I totally agree with Burnt2x, the back to back diodes are for protection purposes of the stage being driven. They prevent excessive voltages being developed at the input stage.

I would suggest do work voluntarily with people working in control areas at their workshops. Try helping them out in basic areas first and gain practical knowledge in the meantime. Zahid

Mac. dear the argument I have in my support is to have a customized solution for a single channel data input to PC at high rate. I really like USB 3.0 idea and also working on it. But how much is involved in my original requirement?
