    Have you tried using the 'DISTANCE' command in 'DVIEW' it will pull back your viewpoint without distorting your depth perception - you may need to use 'ZOOM' (still in 'DVIEW') afterwards to veiw the object better - try to stick to a 50mm lens zoom setting if you can.
