Thank you calvinandhobbes10 for your suggestion on top bars, but with regards to bottom bars, is it safe to say that lapping can be placed twice the depth of beam from interior and end supports? Length of lapping depends on size of rebars which is class A tension lap.
Hi to experts,
I have a question regarding Rebar Details of a long span continuous beam which our engineering deapartment submit a shop drawing which does not conform to ACI typical beam rebar detail because only 12.0m in length of rebars are available in the market. However, in ACI, it is...
Hello everybody,
I have deep foundation located near the area where water table level is more or less 1.5m from ground surface. A pile cap is to be constructed at a deep as the same level of that water table. My concern is, I could not completely keep the the water down below the bottom of...
Thanks Ron..if necessary to add super P, does it not affect concrete strength? and also, what is the usual dosage to add super P at a certain slump, say 100mm?
Good day everybody,
I have some concern regarding adding super plasticizer at site just before discharge of ready mix concrete. Our footing designed with lot of rebars so we need a flowable concrete for workability. Our mix design includes plasticizer and retarder admixtures but when arrived at...
I have columns with congested rebars and tie bars. I'm planning to order a ready mix concrete with slump of 125 +/- 25mm. Our mix design is 35 MPa with max aggregate nominal size of 19mm with water-cement ratio of 0.42. What is the acceptable max slump for column? Please any expert on concrete...
Gentlemen/Sirs, thanks for your opinions. But what about importance factor for each type of occupancy, does it consider live load to account in computing base shear? For example, for a 4-story car parking building or a 15,000-capacity stadium. Rejoinder from any experts, kindly give your...
Trenno, you have a good point, but much better if you can provide technical logic and how much percentage of live load is required based on applicable building code. Please explain further. Thank you
What is the reason behind in excluding live load from calculating base shear for seismic load of a building? Any expert, please share your opinion on this based on IBC, UBC or any applicable codes. Thank you so much.
Thank you all gentlemen who gave these opinions on this matter. For additional info, the building is moment resisting frame so that splice is placed at midheight of column. My point is, I would like to offset the splice position upward from the center by 65cm and extend the splice length upward...
Attached is the sketch drawing of column rebar detail for more info.
Thank you for consideration.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=d4ef4523-1ede-4b47-bd70-405bde0ec020&file=Col_Splice.pdf
I just started splicing rebars of column and found out that the rebar length is 6.65m and the available full length is 12.0m. So I just cut it into two so that the rebar to be spliced will be 6.0m only which is short by 65.0cm. So I want to offset the splice from the center by 65.0cm upward to...
DaveAtkins, granting that all works are properly done and the pile cap is designed to transfer the load to the piles, there's no way for the pile cap to fail because it is soley supported by piles not by soil directly underneath. My question is, in what way that the pile cap is poorly constructed?
