I am just wondering about how your software is going now? I think it is a very smart initiative to plan it. Well, it might be difficult to realize.
I've used PDMS for some time and have never seen such kind of piping spec solution.

Not sure if you have seen the latest version of PDMS: VPD PDMS 11.6? It will answer your questions: windows style, undo/redo, etc. etc....
