Thanks vesselfab.
The cost of the manway was not an issue. This vessel has trunions on both ends (heads, horizontal vessel)and the eccentric weight of the manway required a much larger motor to turn the vessel, probably killing the project.
Thanks for your help.
Right you are vesselfab.
I've done the calculations on this manway as a nozzle and it does not require a wall anywhere near 11/16". (I did say 11/16" gasket width, but UG46(j) actually says minimum gasket bearing width, not quite the same).
Commercially available code manways seem to have at...
I was trying to find an elliptical manway (11 x 15)to put into a 12ga small shell. All seemed to have heavy walls. I happened across UG46(j) which requires 11/16" wide flat gaskets on internally energized manway. What is the reasoning or engineering behind this requirement?
Why not use an electric motor driving a pulley or wheel with an eccentric pin. Pin connected by Heim jointed rod to spring tester.(ie crankshaft/rod assembly). Motor rpm, or motor and pulley system if speed reduction is required, should be easy to time to get to 100K without specific counting...
When in the mood to buy gas, always make sure that the tanker truck is not filling the storage tanks. Filling stirs up the sediment/water and could plug your filters quickly. Happens to many. Don't buy gas when the tanker truck is there!
I guess I needed to read the original question again. Or maybe I just can't stop thinking like a motorcycle rider. Who would use a motorcycle engine for something that experiences lateral acceleration? Sacrilege!
If the 2G force is toward the bottom of the engine (should be) and there is a 12" vertical oil gallery from the pump to the pressure measurement location then the pressure is reduced by the 2G additional acting on the oil column. If oil has a specific gravity of .9 then oil pressure to the top...

I used to test compressor cylinders to destruction. We used an enclosure made of heavy bar grating. Even though cylinders were tested with oil, it sometimes looked as though someone had put a grenade inside, when they let go. We had to repair it a few times, but it never failed...

I had an ES-2. Good handling machine, but not much go.
Pushing on the handle bars to upset the center of gravity is the best way to initiate a turn. Counter steering is then required to continue the turn.
You indicated that you had some nozzles with a larger center hole. If the outside diameter is the same, then this would reduce the l/d ratio resulting in less penetration. This would reduce the possibility of impingement on the cylinder wall. By the looks of the pistons, the carbon buildup...
Changing the injector nozzle angle would definetly help the impingment problem. I would also be sure that you are using the correct gasket for the injector. You may want to experiment with thicker gaskets to reduce impingment. Are there any inpingement marks on the head?
