A few quick suggestions; first buy "Engineering Documentation Control Handbook" by Frank Watts. This will either tell you or confirm what you already suspect.
Secondly; even if I were a Cad group of (1) I would still use PDMWorks specifically for control of SolidWorks source files.
And lastly...
Thanks Jon,
The approach the VAR you worked for seems reasonable. I am skeptical about so much more these days and was suspicious that the VARs had migration tools to convert the data and that the charges to the customer was all "gravy" for the VAR. The first time I looked into ePDM was a couple...
Greetings,
Were those of you who have switched from Workgroups to Enterprise charged a data conversion fee by your VAR? If "yes", what was the cost and how did the conversion and subsequent implementation of Enterprise play out?
Thanks
I would not include service kits in with the product BOMs as the consultant suggests. If you're using Windchill you could create an attribute with which you could associate the spares kits with the appropriate product BOM.
I have always ended up creating new part numbers for spare parts because...
Kit,
The rules you describe regarding inter-changeability, part number v. rev level change, are correct in my opinion as well as Frank Watts "Engineering Documentation Control Handbook". If all existing material in the world is reworked, making it inter-changeable with the upcoming rev, then a...
You will be much better off if you check in the parts and rename them in the vault.
BTW, we employ a similar technique described by Macduff re naming associated parts in an assembly where XXXXX is the assy number and XXXXX_1 would be the first part associated with the assy, XXXXX_2 the 2nd and...
Looks like you're moving from 2008 to 2009?
You're refering to updating older version files to newer?
There's nothing wrong with updating the files as they're checked out and checked back in. I believe when you check out the older files and then check back in, it will want to bump the rev.
The...
We've been testing SP3 for about a week now.
- There were drawings we couldn't open on SP1 but now we can.
- The Reload from Vault works now.
- My test users report fewer crashes than on SP1.
- Edrawings is working in the vault.
Tom,
What are you trying to accomplish? What do you mean by "alternate with read write access"?
Without knowing more, you can control file access and permissions within PDMWorks using folder permissions and lifecycle mgt. Take a look at the PDMWorks Help.
I recommend you check out Omnify PLM.
I've been using it for over 3yrs. now.
It's easy to set up and maintain. No need for expensive consultants.
Good luck
