    Thermal Conductivity question

No its not for school. its more of a question of thermal conductivity with heat generated by passing thousands of amperes thru a insulation media. My instinct tells me that it is a matter of density and molecular structure of the material.

    Thermal Conductivity question

If i have a insulating material with a TI of 130C for example and at one point a copper conductor touches it exceeds 130C, would the temperature at the insulating material exceed 130C? or would it be something less than 130C. I guess if I was cooking on a stove with a pan made out of...

    201 stainless steel

I'm trying to find a comparison between 316 or 316L SST versus 201 stainless steel. I'm interested in the corrosive properties comparison. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Could someone explain X/R in relation to interruption

Dumb question but what angle would X/R = 6.6? In other words, a purely inductive angle of 90 degrees would be what X/R? thanks much

    Silver Plate Corrosion

not sure, just the outside elements.

    Silver Plate Corrosion

Thanks but the plating was almost Black. Is this normal?

    Silver Plate Corrosion

We have some copper pieces silver plated and the plating becomes tarnished when exposed. Is this normal? Does it effect the conductivity of the electrical joint when applied. thanks

Could someone explain X/R in relation to interruption

We typically have to interupt breakers with a X/R between 6.6 and 8 with X and R in series but our lab gives us around 11.25. Which one is more severe on the breaker interruption a higher X/R or a lower one?

Fiberglass (GPO-3) with a Lexan window

I'm looking for some help. We make a .25" thick GPO-3 cover plate but have a customer who wants a clear window through it. It has to be a submersible seal, the pressure is about 3-4 PSI. Is there anyway to bond lexan or some other clear material for a window to GPO-3 (some other stiff...

    AC Coil Operation

I was told by the coil manufacturer that this coil can be either AC/DC. He suggested a dual coil configuration, with one coil that could produce enough stroke at the low end and then a coil with enough mass to handle the current at the high voltage level. Would use a relay scheme that picks up...

    AC Coil Operation

I measured the coil with a fluke so I believe it would be the DC resistance? We use to use a bridge rectifier with this coil and it would work fine as low as 16VAC . Now, with the spec changed to 13VAC-190VAC as a range, I not sure it will work at the low end without the rectifier. How do I...

    AC Coil Operation

Thanks for your help guys. I should have paid attn. in electrical basics class. What I have is a 11.3 ohm coil that trips a breaker when the breaker trip contact is made, the trip contact stays on about 4 cycles. Help me out on my math by if the range is 13-190 VAC input to the coil, then at...

    AC Coil Operation

Thanks for the PTC idea. How fast do they react? Maybe at the norm voltage range (120V-190V) I can hit the 13 VAC coil direct, but at the under the low voltage, I can go through a relay circuit and a PTC to limit the IsqR heating of the coil, if the PTC is fast enough.

    AC Coil Operation

The coil is part of a solenoid assembly. The device must operate down at 13 VAC and up to 190 Max. The coil is momentarly pulsed when needed for about 4 cycles mon.
