For clarity -
RC-2031 provides for the waiving of the inspectors "Inprocess Involvement". This statement has been a problem since it was first concieved. Numerous inquiries have been made re: the statement. Bottom line...Inprocess involvement is limited to the inspector visit to...
I guess I'm surprized to hear that you are responsible for the steam stops...I've never heard of a rental boiler provided without them...In addition.....I've never heard of a rental boiler supplier that is not responsible for connecting his equipment to yours. The RV's you need should be...
I'm with MJC on this one...quit fooling around with half hearted repairs...this is LPG, someone could get hurt. Recommend a replacement head as a minimum, but more likely a replacement vessel (cost factors).

Arvi,
2 thoughts.
1) the boiler your installing is specifically intended for temporary service. The Jurisdictional Authority should be consulted regarding all matters involving this boiler. I would presume that temporary units are not subject to the same rules as perminent units.
2) The RV's...
Gentlemen,
Many replies in this thread are correct when they state that the ASME does not discuss changes or repairs to vessels that have already received final ASME acceptance as evidenced by a signed data report. The cases presented add the wrinkle that they meet the ASME but are not stamped...
It walks like a duck and talks like a duck, however, there are many possiblities. The true definition of a section I boiler is in the stamping. Find the original manufacturers stamping, manufacturers Data report, or obtain this information using the boilers National Board registration number...

My understanding is that the ASME STARTED to reduce there factor of Safety in 1999 as the result of foreign code competion. Code around the world have been producing safe vessels to a less strict factor of safety for a long time. ASME is trying to keep up. If I recall the disscussion...
The benefit of a backing ring is that it virtually guarantees full penetration of the weld without the worry of burn through. The root pass of an open butt joint is typically the most difficult part of the weld to create because the welder has to pay detailed attention to the amount of heat...
I hesitate to enter an opinion regarding this issue. If your QC Manager says he needs books, he should have them. That being said, Arto's response is one way to go. Keep in mind that many National Board Reps and consultants want the real thing in front of them during reviews.
Here comes the...

I direct your attention to ASME VIII D1 para U-1(a)(3). Unless SPECIFICALLY stated, this code does not establish prohibitions. The limitation you reference is specifically for the assignment of the Efficiency value of the identified weld which does not, in my opinion, form a specific...
I agree that a break out connection will work just fine in allowing access however, you must consider that Jurisdictional Inspector's, Insurance inspector's, and other's may consider this modification to be the removal of a dedicated manway by changing it to a process nozzle. The requirements...
