Mike, Thanks for the vote of confidence...I'm and innovator, so finding a newer, better, cheaper, different way of doing things is what I like to do. Best regards, ewalk

Using adheasive instead of weld on aluminim

You guys are great. I have used the VHB for decal plates it is great stuff. Love it... Is there an adheasive out there that has the peel strength of VHB and the ease of application of a caulk gun? You can go to www.precisionmetalkraft.com to view the tool box that I am building. I am...

Using adheasive instead of weld on aluminim

I am building an aluminum toolbox and would like to eliminate as much weld as possible for cost reasons. Are the adheasives strong enough to use without any machanicial fasteners? Any suggestions on design of the joints?

invalid object index, file is corrupt SW2005

I just cleaned up my pc (complete reformat) and installed SW2005 as a new install. I then opened my master model (clean and created on a different pc, with the same version/copy/disk of SW). The model opened fine. I then shut down the pc and restarted it 12 hours later. When I try to open...

Home heating oil vs #2 diesel

I have about 230 gal of 25 year old heating oil that needs to be used up. Can I use this to fuel an older diesel tractor? I can blend it with some fresh fuel to "freshen" the whole batch. My recollection from school is that both of these are essentially the same fuel. Thanks, ewalk

Which job to say yes to?

Thanks for the input Guys...I'm still working on the decision. Right now it looks like the money will win. I have asked for a couple of additions to the lower offer that would make the decision a little easier. Thanks again. ewalk

Which job to say yes to?

I have two job offers pending. Both require a move. Job A is better paying, but is out of my "field of passion" and 800 miles from family. Job B is much lower pay, -20K, but in my "field of passion" and only 50 miles from family. Is the money worth it?

    Standard steel shapes Lib sketches

Where can I find a library of all the standard steel shapes? My subscription is not up todate, so I can't get it direct from SW. SW04 only has a limited number of shapes in the default lib.

    Welding Stainless to Steel

I need to weld some 304 stainless to AR steel. I plan to use ER70S-6 wire and 75/25 gas. This will be a fillet weld and will not be a load bearing weld. I have been told that this will crack and fail, What are your thoughts?

    Spiral Fracture of Hex shaft

The shaft fails about 0.5 inches inside the bearing race. The bearingis race is 2 inches wide. The sprocket is opposite the failure at the bearing. The sprocket is supported between two bearings. The shaft is in the weather, but not a corrosive enviornment. It could expirence some anarobic...

    Spiral Fracture of Hex shaft

Thanks for the help...:) This is a GREAT group. These parts are failing at about 500 hrs. I don't have good data. I can not see the typical signs because the parts are rusty or dirty by the time I get them. We are isolating the shaft to limit any canatlivered bending load. The shaft will...

    Spiral Fracture of Hex shaft

Thank you for the great feed back. My failure rate is about .5% at the current rate I'm guessing it is not a matter of if, but when. I have failures at several loads. Is there a way for me to estimate hardness? I do not have access to a rackwell tester.

    Spiral Fracture of Hex shaft

I have a 30mm hex shaft turning at 650 rpm. The torque varies from about 339 ft-lbs to 1357 ft-lbs. Normal running torque should be about 450. The shaft fails at the lowest torque. The latest failure is continuous spiral with fractures about 1/4 inch apart. The material is DIN 42CrMo4 or...
