    Rock Allowable Bearing Capacity

dmoler, Your 100% correct with the auger borings, we do the same proceedure but normally use around 5000psf. I have access to the SPT driller, but if I mobilize him I might as well do several bores at various depths. What Iam hoping to do is have a simple test I can carry out to do my...

    Rock Allowable Bearing Capacity

dmoler, THanks..It is a 1-storey building with six power generators inside. Each generator is about 18kips. THe remolded strength does suck..I was thinking of getting a plate bearing test, but the soil is so uniform I thought cores would be okay.

    Rock Allowable Bearing Capacity

Thanks, I found it in Caltrans manual on the web. We are going to get some rock cores done for $30/ft next week, because was you said the cubes are too low. Thanks again

    Rock Allowable Bearing Capacity

jdonville; Would you be kind enough to research the formula for me because I don't have a copy and it looks like it would take days to get a $400 new copy.

    Rock Allowable Bearing Capacity

I will check it out but I don't have any RQD values. I saw a report that used the UCS and split tensile value. We are doing some checks on an incomplete building that is for sale and made some cubes of the rock fragments from the footing excavation. The UCS values were from 170 psi to 278, one...

    Rock Allowable Bearing Capacity

Is there an agreed standard for correlating the unconfined compressive strength of limestone core samples to the allowable bearing pressure?

    Shallow Foundation Suggestion

BigH, The site is a reclaimed area off the Cays, for stopover yacht owners who want a place to rest and party. I was thinking the SPT could be done manually and try to get it done. Right now, considering cost, construction and materials we are looking at two alternatives...1. Grillage foundation...

    Shallow Foundation Suggestion

Thanks for all the opinions, esp. BigH and jgailla, this is the kind of information that I was looking for. Will be able to be more comprehensive with the engineer. Thanks again.

    Shallow Foundation Suggestion

The geotechnical engineer is scheduled but I want to continue working on the design. Just want creative alternatives before I get the usual safe solution...piles at 12 feet on center. I don't think the SPT test will be done because the site is so remote. Any suggestions on portable test that we...

    Shallow Foundation Suggestion

We are in the early structural design stages for a 100 home housing development in Florida. The houses are 2500 to 3500sqft and two storey constructed from 8" CMU. The site is a reclaimed swamp area, a few test pits indicates visually the top 3 feet is loosely compacted limestone sand fill on...
