Actually today is a network problem, the system has totally crashed. So quite possibly they have been experiencing trouble with it the past week or so. Everything here is down, the SW server, print servers the whole deal. Sorry to bother you guys with this, but at the time I was the only one...
Yes Mango it is on a network drive I am working off of... I will check with IT and see if they are doing anything that would make it flaky.

Actually I think you can customize the way the hole call out shows up and still have it linked to the part.
Try editing the calloutformat.txt file under your SolidWorks directory.
But what you may be looking for is right click the hole dimensions and select display options and select define...
