Why would they use this in the early 1900s if a rolled shape was available? This is a short span runway length. What would've been the reason for using a tri girder riveted runway beam>
Somewhere I saw it was 13/16" is the max hole size for 3/4 but I can't find the reference. Anyways that max hole size for any structural bolt is 1/16" oversized correct?
Pictures are of a 20T runway bearing on a 1914 multi wythe brick wall. Roof has been leaking. Upgrade in 1985 by supporting the center runways with new columns but the runway ends weren't reinforced. We failed the crane inspection.
I'll use the extended end plate for lighter capacity cranes and smaller frames but on the larger frames with higher capacity cranes I prefer the bolted flange seat connection for better rigidity. I'm asked to go out of my comfort range to save money. Curious what others opinions are on the...
Trying to understand the difference and when you'd use one of the other? Designing a frame to support (2) 5T cranes. The frame is 20' high by 55' long. I'm using W12x65 headers and columns. W12x65 is sized based on kl/200 for 55'. I'm used to doing the bolted flange connection but...
I'm designing a crane bridge beam with a coped beam seat for the bridge. I've always used a flat plate as an intermediate flange for the bearing plate. The contractor is asking if they can use two angles as the intermediate flange for the bearing plate with the web of the bridge beam...
I've never seen this before and I'm not sure what to say. I'm assuming the Gr8 bolts are inserted into hollow cores and I doubt if sleeve inserts were used. I think the Contractor drilled a hole; squirted epoxy; and stuck the bolt in the hole. What does everyone else think? What you're...
To my knowledge, they're drops, left over pieces from a previous order. A customer ordered a specific length but didn't want the drop. So the supplier has these large beams stored incase someone else may need a W14 of this size.
edit: Which is stupid, when you buy a beam you're paying for...
I don't know how to edit my post; but I'm checking web stiffener requirements based on beam rxn's and not wheel loads. Not sure what the unbraced length is for a two-span beam if the top flange is not braced at all. Do the center column act as a brace? I'm guessing no and looking for an...
Thanks for the input. As I figured bolts on the inside of the column is more of a prying issue than anything. Connection is pinned. If it's fixed then I typically do 8 bolts; four on the outside and four on the inside.
The capacities are low; 10T and under. Typ is 5T or 3T. Class C. I...
