Iumcad… SW will do exactly what you want to.

Inferred relations are one of the best things about SW. Why you are not able to do it I don’t know, it has always worked for me. Does anyone know of an option setting that turns off Inferred relations?
Maybe...
Super thanks KenB. I’m still ignorant of how to implement VB but when I get some time…
Doing the next station with a master that can be driven open with dims. Looks like it will work, got to dimension it from the outside in instead of the more intuitive inside out.
One hassle… you can’t...
Your both right. Lots of parts use converted sketches and extrude to vertices using the sketch vertices. But the sketches are controlled by dims that could be configed as CBL said.
I think CBL’s suggestion would be the way to do it. Unfortunately I didn’t set up the master sketch to open and...
Is there a quick way to Lock and Unlock external references on ALL parts in an assembly?
I created parts within an assy using the master sketch method. Master was drawn in CLOSED position. Now I want to make a config in the OPEN position… but of course parts are all tied to the master and...
My take is the similar to wes616’s. Configs define the assy… different changeovers, different positions… or configs can isolate smaller, workable areas. Like creating sub assys without actually creating a file.
DS groups parts within a config for display. I like to think of them as visual...
Rltw… sounds like you know what I’m talking about. Get enough keys under your hands you hardly have to move the mouse. That’s been my answer to RSI. I’ve been looking for something like this DX1 for 15 years. I run acad a lot too and DX1 should work just as good with it.
Everybody seems to...
I just saw this input device last week. Looks like it’s been out for at least a year.

I got a system I’ve been using for 10 years that I really like and has kept my left hand busier than the mouse hand. But they quit making them 8 years ago and the ones...
This thread is still going strong eh? I think the SW guys have the IVers out numbered and hittng hard. Hehe.
Jasons account of IV’s 11 highlights is pretty accurate IMHO. I’ll do some addendums. Not meant to take away from what Jason took the time to say, but add to them.
1. functional design...
I also said:
“Is there a way to “lock” a display state?”
“I'm just wondering if there IS a way to lock DS and i haven't found it.”
“If that’s the way it works… that’s the way it works.”
“I guess the answer to my original question is… NO. “
If someone would have just said “no”, I would have...
I also don’t know all the ramifications configs and states deal with. I can see how locking configs could get messy. But DS just looks unfinished.
You know Jason, I’m trying to avoid using the “I” word. There’s no I in Solidworks…
Oh, wait, I guess there is.
I can’t believe I’m the first to see this as a problem.
Those 3 Advanced Options only apply to new parts. They don’t “lock” the config. Anything you change while in the config still changes that config. All those options look like individual enhancement request band-aids, close to overlapping...
“.....but when using the assy in another assy....it always uses the active DS.”
You’re right, that’s not good. DS should not control what an assy is… way too many levels of confusion. DS should just control how it’s displayed while being worked on.
How does IV work? The default View Rep is...
CBL: I see, a DT can be set up to show the same parts everytime. Yes, that is what I want. It’s quite a bit more work than what I’m used to though.
I see configs as a top level assy manager. It can hide show parts but it’s unique ability is to control mates. To show the same assy in different...
I’ve seen imported models with invisible, non-selectable surfaces too… I say invisible because the part was solid, it would section, so the surface was there. I flexed a part once and got some invis-sufaces. But is that the problem? Or the heavily fractured surface? Did the mating part have all...
