    AISI MathCAD spreadsheets

Thanks IRstuff. These are the spreadsheets I was looking for. They have some section property calculations that has not changed. These are very helpful.

    AISI MathCAD spreadsheets

Older version of AISI Standard Specifications for Cold Formed Steel Design used to come with MathCAD Spreadsheet design examples. These were individual spreadsheets for flexure check, compression check, computation of effective section properties, screw strength etc. I lost my copy of CD and am...

    Bridge Catwalk

Thanks Paul. I saw the ASCE/IBC requirements. Usually, AASHTO requirements are more rigid. But 90 PSF seems to be a bit high for use for a inspection catwalk. If I cannot find a correct AASHTO reference, I guess I will be designing it for 90 PSF.

    Bridge Catwalk

What would be the design live load for a bridge catwalk? AASHTO does not specify anything for the catwalks. Appreciate any help.

    Excavation Support

Thanks a lot PEInc. I was approaching the equilibrium by balancing the active and passive pressure. I lost sight of the bracing. Your response cleared my confusion.

    Excavation Support

Thanks PEInc. I am trying to understand the design as an exercise. I ignored the location of the lower brace while trying to compute the R. I will try again with that. Appreciate your help.

    Excavation Support

I am reviewing a design calculation for the Excavation Support. The loading diagram used by the designer is in the attached link. This is the standard loading diagram provided by NYC Sewer Design Standards for Non-Watertight conditions. Can anyone tell me how the reaction at the dredge line...

    HEC2 Data

It is a county bridge. They do not have the data. I checked on the FEMA site as gbam had suggested and found that a study for the exact location that I am looking for is available. I will follow froude's suggestion and see if I can get a copy of the FIS Data. Thanks everyone.

    HEC2 Data

It is a tributary of a major Waterway. So, I guess it is a FEMA regulated waterway. I will call the local FEMA office. Thanks for your help gbam.

    HEC2 Data

I am trying to perform a hydraulic analysis for a small stream where we are replacing the existing culvert. I need to get the HEC-2 input data to run the HEC-RAS model. Any idea where I can get this from? I tried the FEMA website. But I could not find it. Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Edge Stresses in tubes

Hello everyone: I am trying to design a cantilever sign structure. I have to use a square tube for the column (post) due to some constraints. As you are aware, edge stresses build up at the base of the tubular members. According to membrane theory, the bottom has to be reinforced (stiffened)...

    Yield Strength of Steel Wires

Hi Everyone: I am trying to find the Ultimate and Yield Strengths of galvanized annealed mild steel wires. I need this to design the support system for suspended ceilings. AISC and other handbooks gives the wire gage sizes only. Any idea where I can find the strengths? Thanks

    Non-Load Bearing Drywall Studs

If you have MathCAD, you can download a set of worksheet from AISI web site. You can calculate the section properties for the desired section with these worksheets. Programs are also available for designing the sections for bending, compression, combined stresses etc. MathSoft previously used...

    light gauge steel strap bracing

Metal strap can be directly screwed into the stud and need not be tensioned. Just pulling it tout would be sufficient. I am not sure however if attaching it to every stud is a good idea. Because, the idea of diagonal brace is to transfer the tensile loads to the floor (structural member)...
