Ah there are a few hidden little utilities like that buried here and there! It is included with the install, so I think that it should be OK to pass along if needed?

You can have a single sheetmetal part that you can flatten in a weldment if you like. I would probably suggest making a top down assembly though instead for most cases.

There is a utility located here:
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\SolidWorks\Toolbox\data utilities
It is called:
sldsetdocprop.exe
Try running that on the file!

Without seeing the image I would suggest possibly looking into the Path mate that was introduced in SW2008. It allows you to mate a point to a path that can be identified through a sketch pretty easily. So maybe a point on one component...following a specified sketch on the other?

RealView does make a difference. I now add the button for "edit realview appearance" to my standard tool bar. It will allow you to make color changes while RealView is enabled more easily. (Tools/Customize/Commands/ then View category)

p.s. Dell has deals on these every once in a while. I saw them (60GB 7200rpm) selling new on Dell.com for about $130 the other day. Would make a good upgrade for your machine.
I would advise only a M60. SW likes new video cards and drivers....an M60 and the FX1000 card should be current for quite some time. Highly recommended. I did buy mine new off of Ebay for a good price
good point. if i want to use a point for this i make a point in a 2d or 2d sketch and use it as you describe using the parallel to a plane at a point option.
