    Board level thermal analysis

Did you get an answer to your question? The problem with theta j-a and theta j-c is that these are determined using either component on a standard board in still air or moving air. I think the best way is to model the part on the board the with a conduction element for the leads or pads, an...

    Positional Tolerance

From ASME Y14.5M-1994 4 HOLES (diameter symbol)9.0 +-0.2 (control frame)|(position symbol)|(diameter symbol)0.3|A|B|E (end of control frame) The center of the hole (9.0) has to be inside a circle of 0.3 where the center of that circle is located at 29 (horizontal from center) and 50.23...

Solver Error - No Element group defined

Make sure that material properties are assigned to each part. I had a problem where I was modeling fused quartz with the CTE of 0.4e-6/K. When imported from SW to Cosmos the CTE value was set at 0.0 and I got that error message. I had to set the value from within Cosmos and it ran ok.

Generation of particles from two rubbing surfaces

I am building a device that has some moving parts that probably can not help but touch each other and wear. I know that the semiconductor process industry is most concerned with particle generation. Does anyone have recomendations, pointers to literature or anything that would help with...

How do you define an optically sharp edge

I want to thank all that responded. There were some ideas expressed that stimulated some of my own. Probably the use of the term "optically sharp" is a poor idea (one mans sharp is anothers dull). It may be usefull to define the hole as a asme y14.5 profile and add a note about the surface...

How do you define an optically sharp edge

I have an aperture for a device that uses a laser to illuminate a part. The fellow who designed it didn't want an edge that caused excessive reflections so he noted it as "sharp" or "optically sharp". My difficulty is how do I define this on a drawing so that the machinest knows what is needed...
