    Noise Reduction

Agree that most if not all of your numbers are suspect. Easy to get turned around in noise calculations. Noise is measured as flux xxx dB at yyy ft. Normally the noise is rated at 3-5 feet 1-2 meters. Noise will dissapate by free air by the cube rule. Since dB is a log scale the free air...

    Dewar Conversion, LN2 to LNG

Worked once making Dewars. Not many tricks for LNG. Probably the greatest issue is the peripherials. Valves, pumps etc. Brass, bronze, aluminum confinements just is not good enough. The single most important calculations you are working on. It can be confusing to calculate the capacity with...

    Incinerator Stack Design Issues

This is not a difficult problem to figure out. The key is to know the composition of the gas stream that is the percentage of the CL in the stream water vapor percentage and the stack temperature at the base of the stack. It is likely a liner can be installed that would completely eliminate the...

    complex time study question

Did you factor in the range of variability for the asphalt material? I have been under the impression refiners make it a little heavier in the summer. Especially if the customer is not a governmental agency.

    41L40 for gear

I prefer to do my due diligence. Would you know how to analyze the relative wear of the 30c against the 50 c material? If I could approach this analytically it may work out better. I do have a way to back into the gear load. Dan

    burner for hydrogen-rich fuel

You probably need replacement burners to avoid NOX emission problems and to result in a stable flame. A large change in chemistry can affect the flame release rates. If your application is a heater you will need to consider these effects on the design. Like others above, I have seen projects...

    FLARE HEADER INSPECTION OPENINGS

Requirements for inspection oepnings depends entirely on your chemistry. If there is a reason why buildup can occur in the flare header then inspection openings are required. Dan

    Guidelines for heating chemical facilities

NFPA is not an easy read. You may also gain some understanding from API. There is a standard on hazardous classifications that should be helpful. The big oil companies utilize spacing standards to separate hazards as some hazards develop due to spills or other easily unforeseen incidents. You...

    Bearings for Old Lathe

I agree the modern approach is to utilize caged roller bearings. With any luck your machine is new enough that these were available when it was built. Prior to zero precision roller bearings being available the preferred method was to use precision bronze bearings. It is not likely that you can...

    High-pressure steam generator

The critical factor for cost is the heat transfer efficiency. If the heat transfer rates are high the kettle boiler will be more cost effective in the case you cite. However most gas flows and especially with waste heat where radiative or condensing transfer is not available. Watertube...

Plate style heat exchanger for a MHF

Be careful, you might need the 300 degrees to stop corrosion. If this is the case you will need to approach the problem differently than I understand you intend. Dan

    High-pressure steam generator

At 250 psig you may be more economical with a firetube type waste heat boiler (tubes in a shell, firetube optional). The higher pressures are most economically handled by watertube boilers. I know of two types of tubular boilers that would work for your situation as stated. One is a traditional...

    Guidelines for heating chemical facilities

I suggest you refer to NFPA standards for guidance on application of heaters to hazardous areas. If in doubt you can contact authority having jurisdiction as indicated in these standards. You do not state you hazard. Generally open heaters are not acceptable in areas where combustible vapors exist.

    combustion chamber design

The books you mention have most of the data you need. I do not know of a single resource to get you to satisfaction. For energy balance you will need to know the temperature you are heating to and assume some reasonable driving forces to get your overall efficiency. If you are going to...

    Bearings for Old Lathe

What would be the problem with taking a peak to see what the material type was? I think prior to roller bearings, most machine tool precision bearings prior to 1970 were bronze not babbit. If the bearing is bronze there are any number of people who can specify a replacement for you. It would be...
