    IBC Seismic Site Classification

You may want to read Part 3, Section 3.5 of the NEHRP 2003: http://www.bssconline.org/NEHRP2003/provisions/P3E.pdf and Part 3, Section 3.5 of the Commentary: http://www.bssconline.org/NEHRP2003/comments/C3.pdf

    safe programme error messages

I don't know the language used to write SAFE, but in Visual Basic, Invalid procedure call or argument (Error 5) is: Some part of the call can't be completed. This error has the following causes and solutions: · An argument probably exceeds the range of permitted values. For example, the Sin...

    Liquefaction Analysis

I haven't really seen any textbook approach to doing this. It should be done however. The following link is to a software company (don't have anything to do with it)that developed a computer program for liquefaction analysis. Their manual includes a section on how this program addresses this...

    Lateral Spreading of Coastal Slopes

These three references provide the background information on Youd's method. The quote on my previous reply was obtained from the third reference below. Bartlett, S.F. and T.L. Youd (1992). Empirical analysis of horizontal ground displacement generated by liquefaction-induced lateral spreads...

    Lateral Spreading of Coastal Slopes

Youd's article notes that any lateral displacement greater than 6 m (19.7 ft) "should not be applied in engineering practice; such large predicted displacements do indicate, however, that displacements are likely to be large". The method by Youd may not be appropriate for your case.

    NEHRP 2003 & IBC 200 - Site Specific Analysis

I am a geotech trying to understand the requirements for site-specific analysis summarized in the 2003 edition of NEHRP and on the IBC 2000. The description provided in the NEHRP Chapter 3 Commentary gives a clear approach to obtain a site-specific, "ground" design spectrum. However, the...

Site Class F - Fa and Fv

The IBC 2000 is not that helpful regarding the computation of Fa and Fv for Site Class F soils. IBC recommends to condut site-specific response analyses to obtain Fa and Fv. Are the following steps correct: 1) conduct several response analyses using SHAKE, ProSHAKE, or Quake/W for several...
