    How about a filled PP, such as talc, glass or long fiber? should give you the best of both worlds. Say between 15 to 30% assuming you dont need to paint it due to location.

    Measuring material thickness of huge dome

    There are magnetic measuring systems for FG parts. I dont know what thickness range you are looking for. It requires a steel plug to be held on one side while the probe is held on the other. Check with Mitutoyo, they make some of these devices. D^2
