    Bent SS316L shaft

Actually, most shops that do propeller repair for large yachts and commercial marine vessels also do shaft straightening. Not knowing where you are located, I can't suggest a specific shop, but it is a fairly common procedure.

304 stainless bolted to 6063 aluminum - galvanic corrosion

BTW: If you really must mix SS fasteners with aluminum parts, there's a product called Tef-Gel that does a pretty good job of preventing both galling and corrosion. It's used fairly widely in the recreational marine industry.

    Estimating Hydraulic Push Needs

Over-size the cylinders and use hydraulics in both directions. Check valves and flow controls work wonders. Consider using a gear-type flow divider to keep the cylinders in sync.

    Suppliers of flanged 316SS fittings?

Check with Alaskan Copper and Brass; 800-552-7661 What they don't make they can generally find.

    Valve Spool and Bore Tolerances

Can anyone point me to a good reference on acceptable cavity bore and spool OD tolerances for a pilot-operated spool moving in a closed-end cavity? The valve body is aluminum, the spool is mild steel. The system typically runs under 1,000 psi with AW-32 fluid. We're changing vendors on the...

Where have the drafting classes gone?

Ultimately, drafting - either by hand or by CAD program - is all about communicating. Hand drafting forces the student to think about clarity of presentation, while CAD pushes the student towards speed and complexity. In many ways, it's like the transition from slide rule to calculator. The...

    Expansion Joints

Can anyone point me towards a source for ABS Type-Approved expansion joints for use in a 3" (and/or 4") fuel system?

    Expansion Joints

Can anyone point me towards an ABS Type-Approved hose or expansion joint for 3" and/or 4" fuel lines?

    Savings in compressed air systems

Regarding compressor efficiency: Both Grundfos and Goulds have controllers for demand water systems that 1) integrate multiple pumps, 2) adjust the pump's motor speed according to pressure drop, and 3) communicate between controllers so that primary duty is rotated between pumps. The result is...

    Packing Densty

Thanks Cory, Syd & Greg. The spheres are commercial lead shot, the application is ballasting a boat. The shot is poured randomly into the keel and bilge area, then stabilized with polyester resin. Several years ago I weighed 2.5 quarts of the stuff we had on hand at the time, and calculated a...

More effective - bow thrusters or stern thrusters?

    Electrical overload at bow area

Since anchor windlass and bow thruster loads are intermittant, consider locating one or more additional batteries up forward, with diode protection on the charge circuit. Who supplies your thrusters and windlasses? Their tech support people should be able to help with circuit design. The...

    Packing Densty

Is there a table or formula available to calculate the relative packing density of spherical particles based on the particle size? (i.e. What is the density of a cubic foot of lead shot in the various shot sizes?)

    Structual options

boo1 -- If I remember correctly, we used BTI CM3208 (32 ounces per sq yd of knitted roving on a 0/90 orientation with 3/4oz of mat bonded) for the first two layers against the core, and one layer of +/-45 2408 for the final (surface) layer. Resin was Reichold's Hydrex. We built a poly tent...

    QuickCAD R8 User Interface

Can someone who has experience using both QuickCAD and AutoCad R14 tell me if QuickCAD has a command line interface such that an AutoCad R14 user wouldn't get too fouled up switching back and forth between the two programs?
