    Bladder Moulding

Hi IthonEng One company in UK I've used who's good with bladder moulding (e.g. propellers)is Rockwood Composite in Newton Abbot

    Thermal spike test

Hi SW, I have no particular customer requirement. I just want to find out how my composite material performance under thermal shock condition. I was thinking of plunging the test samples into a chamber set at, say -50C, leave for 5-10 minutes and move them to hot chamber, say 100C, leave for...

    Thermal spike test

Hi SWComposites, I need to investigate if my composites are prone to matrix cracking or other failure mode when subject to thermal shock during flights.

    Thermal spike test

Hi, Can anyone offer advice on the heating/cooling rate use in thermal spike testing of composites, for both civil and military applications??

    High gsm ply laminate

Compositepro - what causes the increase in internal stresses and the brittleness? Swcomposites - is the reduction in the compression strength resulted from increase in the weaviness of ply due to heavier tow (i.e. 12K fibre)?? RPstress & all - what ifI use a combination of different gsm fabric...

    High gsm ply laminate

What are the penalties for using higher gsm fabrics and are there any publications available on the internet. Thanks

    PMMA screen failure

Gents, I have a PMMA screen of around 800mm x700mm and 6mm thick. If I were to scored the sheet 3mm deep of v shape grove and from one corner of the sheet to another in the form of X. If the sheet is then subjected to impulse pressure of @ 20KPa. Do you think the sheet will break into small...

Usage of composite materials above Tg

Thanks for all your contributions. I guess the general opinions are analysis is difficult and inaccurate and best is to carry out appropriate testing. Thanks again

Usage of composite materials above Tg

Thanks for the feedback gents, but what if I have to use the composite above its Tg, does the FE analysis result which generated from non linear test data is still appropriate?? may be I should look into FE analysis on elastomeric materials??

Usage of composite materials above Tg

Has anyone has any experience in using composite material above its Tg. If one could characterise its mechanical properties (at temperature >Tg and ignoring non linear failure behaviour), can one use them for FE analysis i.e. does the FE result applicable or appropriate?? n/b: the component...

Determining interlaminar shear on a composite wrap

Compositepro, do you think ILS determined from a flat laminate can be used to analyse a tube structure like a pipe? also if the pipe is subject to a bending load will there be any shear load in the NA of the pipe and how far off the ILS of the pipe from ILS determined from flat laminate?
