What is it with engineers and bikes?
I have a Colnago CT-1 (Campy)
A Cannondale Six13 (Campy)
A Kona Jake the Snake Cyclocross bike
A Catamount MTB
2 Santa Cruz MTBs (one is a 29)
Calculators:
1 HP48GX

I agree with Dik and Dave.
I had to design a reactor foundation on one of my solar projects.
Fiberglass was considered, but in the end, I just designed it as unreinforced concrete.

Well, crap!!!
I didn't realize SlideRuleEra's site was down.
SRE,
Thanks so much for everything you have contributed!!!
I downloaded many valuable publications from your website!!!
Now, if I can just remember where I saved them.....
I have an upcoming project where the face of the CMU in a segmental retaining wall has degraded. In one section, you can see the interlocking pin for the CMU and the gravel is slightly coming through.
I suspect the freeze\thaw cycles as the main culprit in the degradation of the materials. The...
Long ago....
The load combination used to be 0.9DL + 1.5WL for the 1.5 factor of safety.
The thought behind the 0.9DL, is, we, as engineers, may put a little too much load into the DL so it was reduced by 10%
So.....
ASD load combination of 0.6DL + 1.0WL
is really:
(2/3)(0.9DL + 1.5WL) => 0.6DL...
Well, it's not a confidential client, so I assume I can share my calculations.

retired13,
Thanks! The 1st Edition was the most difficult to get. I'd see them on eBay for hundreds of dollars. I went to powellsbooks.com, and looked for it. Of course they didn't have it, but there was a button to "Notify me when it came available." So I clicked it. It took a few months, but...
Ooooooooo!
I do have a couple of copies of the Bethlehem Steel Manual, at home in my "Geek Library". I also house AISC Steel Manuals editions 1 through 9, because I am such a geek.
Thanks guys!
O.K. This is a little bit embarrassing...….
In my 25 years of structural engineering, I have never had to call out a crane rail on a drawing. Do I just say ASCE 70 CRANE RAIL? Or is there a standard for calling them out?
Thanks in advance.
