Can someone suggest the best grade of stainless steel for use in a marine environment? Parts are not submerged. Some are turned, some are springs; low cycle life.
I am welding 2219-T851 cylinders to a 2219-T851 manifold. I am having trouble finding rectangular barstock for the manifold. The size needed is 2.5" x 3". Any suggestions for another alloy that has similar strength and weldabilty for the manifold?
I've got a small cylinder of 3 in. OD, 2. in ID running a pressure of 2000 psi. I am familiar with hoop and longitudinal stress calculations. How do I calculate the von Mises stress?
I'm searching for a lower cost alternative to Vespel SP1.
Application is a poppet to seal a small orifice.
Temperature range is -65° F to 220 F, sealing air at 3000 psi. Not sure if PEEK or TORLON would be good down to -65?
Thanks to all of you for your detailed replies. I've received more info on the requirement from our customer. Heavy metals cannot be a part of the composition. I had previously said that the material must "melt" between 220F and 230F. A better description of what's truely needed is a metal that...
It's a two part question. First I need to know if a non-eutectic alloy exists (or can exist) that melts in the range listed and then a vendor experienced with such a material.
I am getting annealed 420F barstock for making turned parts.
Tempering at 600 F then air cooling produces a tensile of 230ksi according to Mark's Handbook. I plan on doing the tempering in house in a furnace with an inert atmoshere. Can someone tell me the duration of the heat treat at 600F...
I have two small brass parts that are being used in a switching device. Current is about 5 amps for 30 milliseconds. When the parts are unplated I can get a very slight welding action as witness under a scope. Worst case is the parts stick together due to the minute weld. Can anyone suggest a...
I need to convince a customer that a laser welded joint is as strong as or stronger than a dip brazed joint. We are joining two aluminum parts and I have flexability in terms of the alloys depending on which method is used. Does anyone know of any documentation comparing brazing versus welding...
