Well this post is a few years old now!
I know a good bit more about the problem these days and the contributions from the other guys is spot on - usually modern FE programs will numerically calculate the element stiffness matrices on the fly based on theory in Zienkiewicz's book for example...
You hit on my point dik, picture the negative moment over the support: It goes from a maximum to 0 as the support stiffness decreases from rigid to 0.
btw I like fourpled!! where do you register new words!!
Sorry gentlemen been away form the machine for a while, glad to see this one is turning out a real little gem.
Grillage Analysis:
Ok, are the beams to be cast at the same time ?:
Yes: do take load patterning into account on the CBeam
and just qualitatively asess the torsion that occurs...
Thanks, StructuralDzine, I seem to have missed the bit about it resting on steel beams - in that case we are all in agreement!! Group Hug!! I am not used to the situation of a mixed (steel & RC) floor support system? It wouldn't seem economic to mix - is it a US thing or elsewhere??#
Oh, the...
If I could add my bit.....
I have recently designed a grid of ground beams, supported by piles & I did use a 3d analysis model, though the beams were in a planar arrangement. As I know that these beams will be poured monolithically I did not reduce the torsional constant section property of the...
Hi,
Small problem, that is holding me up big-time! I am writng an ActiveX DLL with a GUI and they are both seperate projects - so I create a project group - but the Project group is not diplayed in the Project Explorer window - and I cannot therefore, set the startup object - which in turn...
austim,
apologies, not the clearest explanation! I just want independant verification. It is the very papers, etc. that you mention that I was hoping someone might know where there are some on the web. And of course you are right about the symmetry! Thanks for the help
Thanks Qshake, I am trying it now!#
Austim, that is a good idea, but i need a matrix to check results against!! Doing what you said will give the values of the entries in the matrix, but I would need to do a lot of analyses to deterrmine the expressions that lead to that value, and 12x12 = 144...
Gentlemen,
This is where I think permissable stress design falls down, and where limit state (or LRFD, I think) comes into its element. Full statistical data can be made available from the supplier, you could then match this with your design strength characteristic curve - and usually it is...
Thanks austim but it is the actual matrix that CADRE would have used in their program that I am looking for. I have lots of theory stuff but it is just the result I need - I can't really re-invent the wheel on this one!!
Thanks anyway
Colin Caprani
I am hav ing some trouble with a program I am writing and I just want to verify my element matrix with an eternal source so I can strike that off my list as a possible source of error. - does anyone know of a web site that I could get a look at this matrix??
Thanks in advance,
Colin Caprani
hi!
I am using ACI 318 for the first time (I am Irish & normally use BS 8110) as I am using the steel section (I or H) shearhead design method in the code. I have made a ggod attempt at the design and am quite happy with it. However I think I have some questions that remain unanswered & a design...
