Flexible joint allowed in smoke extract fans?

Is it allowed to use flexible joints at all connecting the fan to the ducts in smoke extraction systems? Usually those fans are rated for 300 °C and 2 hours (UL listed in the US) My question is if they are allowed at all, even if the joints are rated the same. Thank you Claudia

    Multiple Cooling Towers equalizer piping

What is the correct way to size an equalizer pipe for 5 cooling towers working in parallel? I am not able to find this anywhere. Thanks

    Carrier 30HXC condenser approach temperature

I have been searching in Carrier product data for design approach temperatures for HX water cooled chillers but cannot find anything. Do they not publish this info? If you do not know the design approach temperature how do you figure out if your approach temp. is too high due to dirty...

Refrigeration system. Replace a DX ...? Need to decide...

I have lots of experience in HVAC, but this is my first refrigeration project. I working on a refrigeration installation of 700 tons, direct expansion (R22). This installation is 20 years old, the compressors (Sabroe reciprocating) are making problems and there is a lot of refrigerant leaking...

lowering the condensing temperature reduces chiller's capacity?

Now I am suspicious that the temperature sensors in the chillers are drifting. I will check those guys one by one.

lowering the condensing temperature reduces chiller's capacity?

This is part process cooling and most HVAC. I run 39F in summer because it dehumidifies a lot. I need a dew point of 44F in the end of the dehumidification coils. We are talking about 850,000 of make up air, (100% OSA units). The dehumidification coils were designed for 40F. In the rest of...

lowering the condensing temperature reduces chiller's capacity?

Yes, that is the decoupler line. It is a full size line

lowering the condensing temperature reduces chiller's capacity?

Here is a schematic of the installation. There are 3 chillers doing heat recovery not shown, but only one in use now.

lowering the condensing temperature reduces chiller's capacity?

Good answer pretendfarmer. I do have panametric ultrasonic flowmeters on the decoupler. They read in both directions. Primary pumps are constant speed, secondary on VSDs controlling delta pressure. The chillers sequence on and off based on decoupler flow. Chiiler sequences on when decoupler is...

lowering the condensing temperature reduces chiller's capacity?

ChasBean1, it is the decoupler bypass. I agree with everybody, but I had huge arguments with my technicians about this. They go nuts when they see the cooling towers working on 100% of their capacity to provide this cooler condense water. I am a 5'4" woman and they are 6' tall :) We never opened...

lowering the condensing temperature reduces chiller's capacity?

The chillers are brand new, 2 years old. Of course I am relaying on my instruments, in fact, the chillers TET and my flowmeters. Delta T is high now, they get to 16F in the middle of the day. I mean, they are operating according to design, except the condenser water temperature. It is a...

lowering the condensing temperature reduces chiller's capacity?

I have Trane 2000 tons centrifugal duplex chillers, and I am having problems getting them to reach full capacity. I am resetting the cooling towers temperature. Could this be contributing to the capacity shortage? I am short on 300 tons. The chillers were designed for 85F condense water, and...

Instrument air copper piping - corroded

Correct, it seems to me that the rust is copper patina. This installation is not near the coast, but cooling towers environment is humid by nature. If that is patina it should be protecting itself. May be I should take one piece out and get a lab test...

Instrument air copper piping - corroded

The instrument piping is installed around cooling towers. It is copper and as you can see, it has a layer of green rust all over. This installation is not older than 3 years. What is the best way to protect this line? Paint? Wrap? Insulate? Thanks
