Working with magnets in an assembly

Magnetic field strength drops quickly with distance, so place your plate as close to the magnets as you can, if you're after maximum braking. Bo

    Magnetic flux direction

Hi Dgallup, I'm not sure if "all flux lines exit normal to the surface". I suppose it goes back to the boundary conditions at the interface between 2 media as: Bn1 = Bn2 Ht1 = Ht2 when there is no surface current on the boundary. Then if the permeability of medium 1 is much higher than that...

Working with magnets in an assembly

Hi ERIMechEng, What tolerance do you need between the magnet and the rotating plate? I know with Loctite you can easily control the glue line to under 0.005" or even smaller. Or, you can always grind flat after bonding the magnets to the fixed plate. I would use Neo magnets. They tend to...

    Magnetic flux direction

The direction of magnetic flux lines is affected by other magnetic parts or magnets in the pin's vicinity. If the pin stands alone, the flux lines are unlikely to retain the axial direction when they leave the 45-degree surface. They would take the shortest path, or the path of least...

FEMM - What's wrong with this picture?

Hi Nergus, Please keep us posted as how your nanoparticles behave above the magnet array. I suppose they will accumulate over the boundaries, but it would be nice to get it confirmed. Bo

FEMM - What's wrong with this picture?

Hi Nergus, I agree with your hypothesis that the MagScan measurement is the net sum of the flux through the Hall element area. Therefore when the probe scans across the boundary of two alternating magnets, it will miss the real peak and gives you two "peaks". Did you notice your MagScan B sum...

Using Neodymium Magnets with N to N poles for a long period of time.

There is always a "dead zone" somewhere as I can imagine, even if one magnet is stronger than the other. The "dead zone" will be shifted farther from the stronger magnet and closer to the weaker in this case. It could work for you depending where you position your reed switch.

15-5 PH stainless steel BH curve

Hi engineers, Could any of you help with a B-H curve for 15-5 PH stainless steel? Or for AISI S15500? I understand there is not an absolute B-H curve for a specific material; it varies from lot to lot. But just want to have something to start with. Bo

    4140 replacement

Hi Gwjohnson, Do you happen to have the BH curve for 4140? I've been searching for it and had no luck so far. I'd really appreciate it if you could share the info. My email is bzhang at dextermag dot com, or please post it here. Bo
