Having replaced several 944 cam belts, I would like to comment. One didn't bend valves (broke at idle speed). The usual tensioning technique (quarter turn, moderate thumb pressure, longest span) would sing like a bird. Had to resort to adjusting at idle speed, not for the faint of heart. I...
The Nissan 280Z has a setup which you have desribed. It bolts on to a inner fender panel. Nice setup, never seen one go bad. It had a heat sink and shield around it. Good luck
Older Porsche aircooled flat fours had no head gaskets at all, which they proudly advertised as not necessary due to superior design and machining. My Briggs 5hp engines don't have them either, no problems with increased compression. Concerning the Corvair, the OEM Buna N pushrod tube o-rings...
Please make sure the piston is down in the cylinder. Some of the taps mentioned above have an integral reamer to provide sizing and alignment. Grease the tap, leave the engine in and head on. Use the insert. Have fun, wunderbar
It is my understanding that one circuit varies the ground of the field and the other varies the B+ to the field. An older auto generator text will illistrate this. A sharp generator rebuilder should be able to guide you further. Bub
I vaguely remember reading Glas was first back in the 60's. Having seen my share of cam drives, the Lambo V12 triple row chain with manual tensioner(one notch tighter at every tuneup) was top of the line. Of course the shaft driven bevel geared Crosleys and Porsche 904 don't count. Funny how a...
Your idea brings back a lot of memories. Back in the 70's I was involved in the installation and operation of a water-based chassis dyno. Some info you might find interesting: With supply water at 60F; the piping must be sized to flow 13 GPM of city water to cool 200 horsepower. The average test...
Early 70's full size chevys had a dealer installed steel cable on drivers side only, no throttle return with broken mount. It had no preload but not much slack either.I think the bracket attached outboard front of the exhaust manifold, cable down to frame. Bub
If the added straps and bolts were weight matched and mounted symetrically, would it effect the existing balance? The straps are typically stamped steel and should be close, bolts, washers, and nuts also.
The OEM trans repair book would be your best bet, hydraulic flow diagrams, ecm interface, and line pressures, but hard to find. Mitchell On-Demand trans repair has less info. I believe some Benz trans start off in second gear at light throttle. You might end up with a electrically controlled...
Not a good idea for several reasons. The input torque specs, trans mounts, shift linkage, output shafts, and the killer, ecm interface. Recommend you modify the existing trans, what's your beef with what's there? Bub
