Thanks CheckerHater, I've started with a fresh (2017) copy of ASME Y14.100 for a standard definition of alternate part (interchangeable item). Our copy of ASME Y14.35 is pretty old and doesn't show any standard notes for alternate parts, but I will look at getting the newer copy.
Thanks for...
Is there a standard or specification that provides definitions for:
-superseded, supersedes
-replaces
-alternate
-alternate, one way forward
I have a couple of company-specific definitions but would like to find something standard to use.
thanks
This has been observed on one location where a steel screw was found installed instead of CRES. As mentioned, this can be very difficult to prevent because the CRES and alloy steel screws look alike after paint has been applied, etc.
Does anyone know of a reliable guideline for selecting fasteners around a magnetic flux valve based on magnetic permeability? The original fasteners that attach an access cover were bronze per AN509 but these are no longer available. MS24694 CRES screws have a magnetic permeability of 2.0, but...
Is there a reference that defines a category for a magnetic permeability of 2.0? I understand the comparison to air=1.0, but it would be helpful if this could be described as "nonmagnetic".
eg: for review of CRES fasteners (MS24694C) to install near to a magnetic flux valve.
Thanks for...
Thanks for the information wktaylor and tbuelna. I'm still in deep thought about mixing steel and aluminum fittings, the effect of assembly torques, etc. I appreciate your help on this.
yes, from a material change standpoint this can get complicated depending on the environment (vibration, chemical exposure, temperature, etc.). I have a NAVAIR 01-1A-20 document that suggests this is a common practice. But I would like to see if any other operators or manufactures allow the...
Has anyone run across an aircraft manual that permits replacement of aluminum 6061-T6 hydraulic lines (pressure) with CRES?
Also- would they still use aluminum or steel nuts (eg: AN818-6D)?
My apologies on dropping this thread short.
I'm still trying to understand the British AP and AVP system, but AVP 970 contained materials strength information similar to ANC-5. It was somewhat of a living document with sections that were inserted or removed with revisions.
We managed to...
thanks for your replies. This is a work in progress and things evolve as we dig up more (old) information.
This is for wing skin attachments on an old WW2 era British fighter (Tempest). Looks like we have what we needed now however. Will carry on to the next item.
