    Wet Pipe Slope per FM

At one time,I believe there was an FM requirement for wet pipe to slope for drainage. I don't see the requirement in the most current version of Data Sheet 2-0. The the requirement go away?

Mechanical expansion anchors in post-tension construction

The Hilti HDI-P are the most commonly used concrete anchors here in Atlanta. 99% of the hangers here are installed using the HDI-P. Pre-installed embedded type anchors are extremely rare around here for sprinkler contractors, though many of the other MEP trades use them. And yes, Travis, you are...

Standpipes in Stairs with Multiple Transitions

I have a highrise where the interior stairwells jump all over the building rather than being a straight vertical stair. We are seeing this a lot lately. Like it is some kinda design trend or something lol. Most of the time, this isn’t a big deal and we are able to make any necessary transitions...

    Globe UMC

We use them and are pleased so far. They do save us money.

Vertical Openings-When Are Closely Spaced Sprinklers Needed?

8.15.4.4 allows you to eliminate the sprinklers if all the exceptions are met. What openings are required to be protected with sprinklers in lieu of being enclosed? The annex clarifies it further by stating the following: "It is the intent of this section to require closely spaced sprinklers...

Vertical Openings-When Are Closely Spaced Sprinklers Needed?

So, NFPA 13, 8.15.4, 2013ed. states that certain types of unenclosed floor openings are to be protected with closely spaced sprinklers where sprinkler protection serves as the alternative to enclosure of the vertical opening. What method do you guys use to determine if the opening requires...

    Multiple FDC Sources

Travismack, that makes perfect sense to me, and I buy that 100% except that why would we calc 750, or even 1000 GPM through a 2 inlet, 2½"x2½?4" FDC? I used to always design three or four inlet FDCs (One for each 250 of standpipe demand)on most high-rises until we discovered the 2013 edition...

    Multiple FDC Sources

I have a highrise building with the two FDC’s as specified in NFPA 14, 2013 ed., chapter 7.12.2. The FDC’s are two inlets each. This is in compliance with 7.12.3.3, even though the total standpipe demand is 750 GPM. In some situations with a greater standpipe demand, we may have one FDC with...

I am thinking about getting a hydrant diffusor for hydrant flow tests but I feel uneasy about it.

I have used the diffusers a lot and I really like them. We also use hose monsters a lot and they are my 2nd choice.

    RPZ Backflows in Pump Suction

It is a high rise for sure. The roof level has a kitchen, among other things, so they are saying that is the highest occupied floor. Plus, the architect's code compliance sheet list it as a highrise. We have done several non high-rise buildings as manual standpipes with no issues whatsoever. I...

    RPZ Backflows in Pump Suction

All 6" bulk and standpipe. My roof manifold is at 85'. I only have a little over 5 PSI of friction loss between the RM and discharge flange. Unfortunately, the gap in the 24 hour test coupled with the loss through the RPZ is what is hurting me here, I believe.

    RPZ Backflows in Pump Suction

SD2, that is exactly what my goal is. Try to keep my churn less than 175 while still getting my 100 at the top. My pressures are as follows and all are pump room pressures that have been adjusted for elevation. Maximum 30 minute high point of the 24 hour test is a static pressure of 65 psi...

    RPZ Backflows in Pump Suction

I have a building with a pump and a RPZ in the vault outside. During the pump rated flow of 750 gpm, the RPZ has considerable loss (About 9.5 psi. My concern is at pump churn how to accurately calculate the available suction pressure so I can calculate the maximum churn pressure. If I understand...

    Sprinklers below escalators

Four floors. I am thinking sprinklers would be required below the lowest level of escalatirs at a minimum, but again, I'm not 100 percent certain that they aren't required below additional levels.

    Sprinklers below escalators

I am designing the sprinkler system for a building with escalators that traverse multiple floors. As much as I would like to eliminate sprinklers from below the escalators, I don't think I can since they are greater than 4' wide. I attached a picture of a similar layout for the escalators to...
