    Generator High Vibration

The generator goes into high vibration(10 mils) after being at running speed for 1/2 hour prior to synchronizing, does anyone have any ideas as to why? This is a steam turbine generator set. Vibration starts at 1 mil and goes to 10 mils quite quickly.

    Bronze bearings

Yes- I do. Ken Machine the journal until it true again, remove minimal amount of material to accomplish this, make a new bronze sleeve bushing to fit the new shaft with the proper clearance. Usually .001" per inch of shaft diameter is the clearance.

    Steam Turbine Seal Losses

try using Maxwell's equation, it works for me, he was just estimating the losses too!

Sudden high vibration in GTG unit

Your problem seems repeatable but random, which suggest some components moving or sticking relative to the bearing or shaft. Eighteen megawatts exerts enough threshold torque or force to initiate the movement. You might have a bearing support problem causing the bearing journal to vibrate...

    Turbine Speed?

This is a great question. What happens is that the speed changer brings the unit to 3600 rpm, once the unit is synchronized the generator must run at system frequency which happens to be 3600 cpm. The electrical inertia of the system is so large compared to your machines, so your machine must...

    Proper bearing temperature measurement

Hello Measuring bearing temperature is really subjective. If the bearing temp is being measured on the outside housing it is subject to large variations. Have you thought about installing bearing metal thermocouples in the bearing proper during next inspection, thermocouple should be as...
