    Linking Autocad Drawing

Well for those interested there is a way....sort of. I read this somewhere else so I am not taking credit. We use .dwg in inventor not .idw, therefore the .dwg is constantly updating as you update the drawing. So I opened the inventor generated .dwg and inserted the block for plan view in...

    Library

We try to interchange our parts as much as possible. But at times even a 'standard' part needs revisions. I set a project up for the folder containing these standard parts. I had to close my current project and change projects and make the changes to the parts. Not that big of a deal was...

    Library

Am I missing something here? If I add a path for standard parts as a library I then cant modify any of those parts in the Library (error of part not checked out to me)? Otherwise remove the library path and have to manually path each part that isn't directly underneath that project folder? Am...

    Linking Autocad Drawing

I was hoping to bring in a drawing from AutoCAD into Inventor that updates as the drawing gets changed. If I remember right, when I was working in Revit Structural, it had that option of either insert AutoCAD drawings as back ground or Link it. Linking it means every time you opened that model...

    Linking Autocad Drawing

Is there a way to link an AutoCAD drawing into Inventor such as xref works in AutoCAD? I know you can import a drawing into a sketch but I was hoping for something more like an overlay that updates along when the AutoCAD updates. We do lots of work with customers who use AutoCAD. So we hash...

X and Y axis in new sketches

I noticed when I create a new 2d sketch, I click the top plane and it sets x heading up and y to my left. To me looking at a top (plan) that y should be up and x to my right. Is there a way to control this? Kind of annoying.

two questions: Sending models and memory

Ah there it is, thank you sir.

two questions: Sending models and memory

First off we are about embark a project where models will be sent and compared with our customer. Is there a way to send everything in one file? Like AutoCAD's e-transmit that would grab all xrefs, line types, etc. associated with a drawing or sheet set. Does Inventor have anything like that...

    Computer Crashes

Switching to software worked like you said mcgyvr. It did run quite a bit slower, but its a lot better than completely crashing. So it turned out to be the video card after all. I got a different one from their suggested card list and it hasn't crashed yet. Thank you everyone for you help.

    Itemizing sub assemblies

Thanks mcgyvr, your quite handy on this forum. While your suggestion worked I was curious if you can explain why it works like that? Setting it to Phantom does it tell Inventor to ignore the sub assembly and look at the individual parts instead? Or is it something far deeper than that?

    Itemizing sub assemblies

So I have a couple of bolts we use here at work that are at a 45 degree of each other on the inside of a channel. I would like to create a assembly of these 2 bolts positioned and when I need them in another assembly I can drop them in. When I insert a bill of materials it naturally lists the...

    Computer Crashes

I will try that mcgyvr, thanks.

    Computer Crashes

It is a NVidia Gforce 210. I emailed NVidia and they said that card is a entry level card not intended for use with 'high end' applications like Inventor. So work is going to update my card. Since it crashes on the most basic assembly of one plate and 8 bolts it either is something else or...

    Computer Crashes

No I haven't done a memtest yet. Not exactly sure on how too. I noticed my graphics card isn't on the list from Autodesk. Does that really make a difference? It does crash when I am spinning something around.

    Computer Crashes

Well I thought it was fixed. It now crashes my whole system about 15 minutes in working inside Inventor. No other program causes this and I use other programs a lot harder than I use Inventor. This time I was working on a simple plate and bolts. Any ideas? A crash last week somehow changed...
