An architect I work with had a nice plastic one engraved with his name and logo. It sticks to his shirt or blazer with a magnetic backer so it doesn't leave holes in his super nice architect outfits, and he doesn't have to wear a lanyard.
I actually think it came off nice. Me, I quit wearing...
150TR chillers are cheap. You can even go modular and get N+1 redundancy for a reasonable capital outlay. I have done a lot of rebuild vs. replace feasibility studies and have yet to have a rebuild bear out the total operating cost vs. a new plant in even a short 5 year LCC.
In appropriate...
I agree that bridge insurance is important. I have an advantage here insomuch as I have only been off on my own for 9 months and so far every contract I have has an explicit limitation of liability to the greater of a few grand or my fee. No single job I have so far would sink me if I had to...
The umbrella is no issue and is taken care of.
My agent has been OK so far... it was the underwriter for the E&O insurance company my policy is with that threw up the bollacks. My agent is now shopping my app to other companies that he reps or works with.
The history and amount I bill were...
Howdy.
I carry a $1MM E&O policy in addition to a $1MM/$2MM general liability commercial policy. I have a potential client that is requesting a $5MM umbrella policy as well as increasing my E&O to $2MM in order to work for them. They are not unreasonable, and are willing to pay for this. The...
Be careful in your equipment selection. There is an NSF rating for pool equipment (any water used in public bathing may only go through approved products), and while most HVAC apps will exceed this standard, they aren't typically rated for it.
I have side-stepped this in a large 1,000,000+...
This can be made to work. Look at the equations governing air flow in suction.
An application engineer at Titus once told me when I was going through a similar issue that you can visualize it with a match. "It's easy to blow a match out... but you ever try to 'suck' one out?" <insert...
Wow, such angst.
I stamp HVAC, Plumbing and Fire as well. To be a good designer you have to understand the systems you design as well as the systems your design interacts with.
I have to tell you that from a liability standpoint, if the storm drains backed up and were slow prior to you tying...
I had an interesting exchange with my former employer over this. I used some pictures of projects I did while working for them. They saw them on the interweb and asked that I not use "their" images. I replied that I had no intention of doing so. The images I used were not from my previous...
Cry22- I am operating under the assumption that we are talking about an operating room in the built environment in a 1st world country. Like the ones I design.
In real state side medical facilities designed by real PEs this would be the case. Window shaking Banana Republics need not apply.
On...
I agree with Warmanga. I own my own firm, and usually have a pretty good idea of what's going on and what to do about it. But I'm not a 40+ year veteran and haven't seen everything.
For that reason I maintain relationships with other engineers and peers, esp. those I worked with in the past or...
Operation theaters, clean rooms and the like are designed to have a pressure relationship with adjacent areas. Outside air is a big part of this. A low outside air rate could put the operation theater negative to adjacent spaces, inviting infiltration.
Also, supply air is generally ducted to...
Rather than reducing exhaust, why don't you identify why you are negative? It could be as simple as dirty filters. An operation room's HVAC health should be important enough for that effort.
God forbid you have some person opened up on an operating table and your have uncorrected duct...
You can use a condensate pump with an overflow shutoff switch tied into the FC. If the pump fails for whatever reason, the fan shuts off or the chilled water valve closes.
A shut off is standard practice here in South Florida in any coil drain pan.
