Thanks for those links. That is the type of items i was thinking about. We do all types of power engineering like the ones you listed so I am trying to compile resources that they could review to get some of the basic ideas.

We will have a couple of high school (~16yr olds) interns this summer at our engineering firm. I am trying to find good intro to power engineering videos, talks, website that we could have them look at to help give them a feel for the industry. Some of the engineers will give them some talks on...
Hi Tony,
You should contact the sat. clock vendor for possible best practice/typical installation guides. One thing you will need to check is the amount of devices connected to each clock channel and the length of the runs. you don't want to overload the channel or add too much delay to the...
Thanks all.
We have typically alarmed on SF6 loss, but a client has asked about installing permanent oxygen/SF6 monitoring/alarming so I am trying to find options.
Andy
Looking for suggestions on what equipment people have used to monitor either SF6 or oxygen in the building that houses SF6 switchgear. Got a request from a client, but have not used monitoring outside of SF6 pressure alarms.
Thanks
Andy
Ok, this fills in a lot more of the story. I am not use to single-phase transformers at substations so I missed that. So the units with coolant loss I assume would still trip out/taken off-line, but they have enough redundancy that with multiple units taken off no load loss.
Thanks
Andy
This happened a while ago so may have already been discussed, but I could not find any thread. The IEEE had a story recently about several (17) transformers that were shot at in Silicon Valley CA. The story says that 17 transformers shot but no outage. I've been trying to figure out how that is...
Hi Magoo2,
I do not have any cost data for a smart meter installation. I think that with a lot of new technology installs $ is not the only driving reason. I would consider SCADA systems and digital relaying as similar projects. If you can perfectly operate & protect your system today why would...
One reason in favor of installing two-way communicating revenue meters (my interpretation of smart grid) would be the decrease in effort/time to read meters and also the added benefits of knowing outages down to the meter level. I have also seen at least 1 place where the detailed load data was...
I see posts every once and a while regarding training and education for power systems so I thought I'd post this. the Manufacturer ABB has several upcoming webinars on protective relaying topics. Here is a link to the details page.

I do not have any affiliation with ABB and...
I was recently talking with a municipal electric Dept in the Northeast US about some percular faults on thier distribution system during 1 of our many snow storms this year. They had several (3+) different instances where fuse cutouts appears to have flashed over from the tops of one to another...
Have you tried one of your equipment vendors? Maybe biased towards their equipment but still usually very good technical people. I know several of the relay vendors have online, onsite and regional classes. Here are some links

I am attaching a copy of what I have come up with.
We are using this as a way of formalizing how an operator at the substation initially responds to relay operation/targets. The goal is to have accurate info that will then be passed on to the responding field tech/engineer before anything is...
