Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC)
Equipment: CS Off Gas KO Drum
Age: 34 years old
The equipment has suffered from SCC of weld heat affected zone.
About 20 cracks have appeared and many have gone through the wall causing small leaks.
I think there is no risk of vessel failure as the cracks...
Perhaps my previous email was not clear enough but I would like to know if there is any standard policy of how operating pumps that have spare pump.
How often would you switch from the main to the spare?
How often do you test/start the spare pump?

Problems with product blockages when steam tracing leaks occur.
The units are Maleic Acid and Phthalic Acid.
I suppose steam tracing leaks are very critical in case Have you got any case of solidification/product blockages because of steam tracing leak.

I suppose the response might differ depending on the service and configuration of the pumps. Are you aware of any standard procedure on this issue?
